In hopes that the MT Solar 1 be removed from Guimaras waters, Task force Project Sunrise has posted in their website, a plea to concerned individuals to help pressure Petron into removing the said ship, that has so far discharged 200,000 liters of bunker fuel out of the 2.0 million liters it is carrying, by emailing your concerns to Petron: contactus@petron.com, mtong@petron.com, rrledesma@petron.com.
If left under 3000ft of sea water, the remaining bunker fuel will surely leak out, causing a disaster that could span the whole Visayan Sea, displacing the lives of millions! and devastating hundreds of kilometers of shoreline and marine biodiversity that will take decades (even centruries) to flourish again.
Project Sunrise
Hundreds of kilometers of shoreline, and marine sancutaries, have already been badly damaged after the MT Solar 1 sunk, last September 11 or 8-11, discharing
200,000 liters of oil buker fuel to date.
It has already killed the marine biodiversity in the areas that it has so far engulfed, displacing the livelihood of thousands of families in Guimaras that rely on the sea for their income. In the worst affected towns, the people are now relying on relief goods to survive, oil slick - related diseases are going up with one casualty already been reported!
