Dinagyang Festival 2007 now a global celebration
The weekend presentation of Dinagyang Festival highlights can be regarded as a global presentation by visiting foreigners and guests who saw the two-day competition in Iloilo City.
Both Secretary Angus Barnes of the Australian Embassy and Country Director Tom Crouch of the Asian Development Bank praised the presentation and the organizers such as the city government of Iloilo and the Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation for coming up with a world class presentation out to challenge the festivities of other countries. Tribu Ilonganon of Jalandoni Memorial National High School retained its championship crown in ati-ati tribe competition yesterday while perennial winner in the Kasadyahan category Tribu Kahilwayan of Sta. New Iloilo Airport 2007 update
It seems that the imminent opening of the new Iloilo airport in Sta. Barbara-Cabatuan is pushing through with no major hitches. The Sta. Barbara bypass road is already being asphalted and the access road going to the airport is now complete with landscaped center islands and street lights. San Jose Church, the birthplace of Dinagyang
Iloilo City’s Dinagyang has its early beginnings in 1968, when a replica of the image of Sr. Santo Niño was brought from Cebu City to the San Jose Parish Church by Fr. Suplicio Ebderes, OSA with a delegation of Cofradia del Sto. Niño,Cebu members.
