Agho Island is a small parcel of paradise located 7 nautical miles northeast of Concepcion town proper or “Poblacion”. The privately owned eight-hectare island has an extensive white sand beach area and a sprawling coral garden. Upon reaching the island you will see the island’s sandbar which shifts from left to right depending on the season or the direction where the wind blows.

There’s no luxurious accommodations in Agho Island. If you want to experience an overnight in paradise you will have to “commune” with nature in the process. Better bring a tent, food, cooking materials, and other things you might need to survive. There’s no reason to panic though, barely a kilometer away from Agho is Malangabang Island, where there is electricity and numerous sari-sari stores available.

On the backside of the island is a hill where you can have a good view of the sea and below it are rock formations and cliffs. This part of the island is not suitable for swimming because the strong currents make it dangerous. It is interesting to visit though, and is something that you can do when visiting the island.

When in Agho, make sure not to miss the breathtaking explosion of light during the sunrise, which can be seen unobtrusively at the backside of the island, and the sunrise, which is in the direction of the scenic Mt. Pan de Azucar.

The only inhabitants of the island are the caretakers, who own a motorized banca or small boat. You can request them to take you island hopping and snorkeling on the sprawling coral gardens near Agho. The corals there retain their vibrant colors with many fishes and other sea creatures swimming around. There is even an enclosed portion where the caretakers grow giant clams, abalone, among others.

Location Map
Agho Island is approximately 9 kilometers or 30 minutes from Concepcion Town Proper by pumpboat or motorized outriggers.

I have so much fun in Agho Island last October 14 and 15, 2012. It is very beautiful place as you can see in the picture posted. It is good when you want relaxing, privacy, discovering and most of all the white sand and a crystal water of the Island. I met Tita Marlyn a caretaker of the Island together with her husband, children’s, grand father and etc. they are so hospitable, approachable and you feel like comfortable with them. As one of my experienced in this Island is that we walked the whole Island, there is some obstacles like trees and stones but we think that is it challenge for us in order to finish walking the whole Island. In the evening, i see the sunset going down. Then after eating our dinner we sing along because they have Videoke then Night Swimming while bonfire near from the sea.
been there three times already and i will keep coming back…
@Jenjen i guess theres a bout to Estancia from Bantayan once a week lang …
normally i go there by plane or via slow boat. I wanted to explore the bantayan route to save on travel time..
any idea on the schedule of trip from estancia to bantayan? Im from cebu city but my dad is a native of estancia. love to go there by boat, help please. thanx
a place to go, better than bora..serene, untouched, you will really come back..thanks manong clarin!
@jen…. it depends where do you live as your starting point of trip…if youre living in Manila or Cebu or Negros Occidental, it changes drastically how you would plan the travel. Those In Bantayan Cebu, theyll just take it by a vessel directly from Bantayan to Estancia, Iloilo, if in Manila, theyll have to fly first to Iloilo City , if youre In Negros, they can use the Victorias-Culasi, Ajuy Route ….
how to get there?
I’ve recently traced back some of my family roots to Sara, Iloilo and possibly Capiz–might be even be distant cousins who knows!?! Would love to get more info on this island since I will be visiting the P.I. soon. Please p.m. me. Thank you!
born and raised in iloilo, but now based in manila.
been to marbuena during my college days but i havent been to agho yet. looking forward to visit the island by june 2010. cross fingers!
Ahhhh…North Iloilo!!! I hope to visit this place in the future! Undeniably, your holistic approach and stunning depiction of Iloilo thru this website has made such a great contribution in promoting it’s hidden gems. Keep the world informed about the wonders of Iloilo, keep the posts coming! :)
Wow, a paradise. A country with small islands and islets but have a massive beauty of nature. A gift from God.
Ang ganda nmn nito.. boracay pa lng yung napupuntahan ko so far…
Are these all your shots? The place is so good and very relaxing. Hoping to go there once in my lifetime. So beautiful!!
its actually private.. basically you would have to ask permission from the owners.. we are trying to maintain the untouched notion of the island. it s when we try to make people understand is that what you bring to the island, you bring back everything. it is accessible if you know people, but i strongly suggest you deal with the people who know the owner or better yet, the owners themselves ;) friendly advice.. 09155454616

hi.. kung mag over night ka pwede ka magdala nang tent. pero meron naman dun cottage.
meron po silang mga huts 4 overnight stay. 500.00 po. wla po electricity sa island so u need 2 pay 4 d fuel 2 use their generator. Quite an experience 2 be one with nature, wlang sinabi ang Bora d2 kung privacy pag uusapan… u have d island 2 urselves very private and very friendly caretakers on d island…
I was in agho island last weekend. It was really beautiful! The water was breathtaking. Better than boracay! The place is just smaller thought. The perfect getaway!!!
I agree. Agho is so virgin and so natural while Boracay has become increasingly overdeveloped
yah…i strongly agree!….agho is one d best island i visited!!!…
Hello, att. bob leyretana
Pls. read the previous comments. You could also try contacting the Tourism OIC of Concepcion.
hi author:
I’m an Ilonggo now based here in Manila. I’ve been hearing a lot about Concepcion. I’ve been wanting to see the place but dont know how and who to approach for the accomodation. I would appreciate if you could correspond with me. I plan to go there this christmas season.
wow! another place to add to my list of places to visit.
hello author! I was born in Ajuy, Iloilo and now a full time accountant here in Makati. I was here since high school and so I miss our place. I just visited related websites and happen to browse this one. I think I would love the place. Once, I happened to visit several islands there like Marbuena and Ginasyan. Pan de Azucar Mountain is overlooking our native place and can be seen right at the doorstep of our home in Ajuy. Most of my mountaineering friends know the place and conquered its peak, hehhe, kaingit sila. Maybe next year, I will try visiting the place so I could experience their so called majestic view. God Bless
Form the city you can ride a Concepcion bound bus in Tagbak terminal. It is a 2.5-3 hour trip … But beforehand you’d have to contact the owner of the island through text: 09219058208 to arrange your visit to the island.
There are no beach resorts or restaurants in the island, you have to bring your own food or bring with you a tent :) The owners didn’t want to ruin the beauty of nature by building too much structures.
what a perfect summer getaway!!! i’m arriving ilo2 2nd week of may’07. how do i get there? i’ll be traveling w/ my husband. how much does it cost for me to rent a cottage for 3 nights/4days? are there restaurants around? the place is really cool…pls advise….ASAP!!!!
Hi Chymera! Medyo busy gid ko kag wala ko ka pamangkot gilayon. Ari ko abi sa Manila na base. Pwede ka stay overnight sa Agho. Para sa cottage, about P200 per day ginacharge nila. Hope this info is helpful to you…
@Eric: I’ll PM you about going to Concepcion later.
@RD: There are 2 resorts I know of and they are in mainland Concepcion. The first is Marbuena Beach Resort and the second is Garilva Jun Bee..
I’ve talked with the Tourism Officer and she said there was no established beach resort in the islands, the only thing you could do is base yourself in one of those beach resorts mentioned and do to the islands during the day … that is, if you don’t know someone who has a house there or have not asked permission to stay in one of the private islands.
wow amazing..never been to Concepcion yet but i want to see those islands early next year..is there any resorts or hotels on that island??what’s d contact number ,anyone knows??thanks..
chy, can we go to this place this coming may? i want to include this and Guisi in my itinerary for May.
TY
Hello oboi, it’s nice that your cousin happens to own the place. I really loved the place when I got there, I could just imagine the great view of the sunrise, I could be up all night in the island just thinking about how wonderful it is watching the sun rise above the mountains of Silay.
Right now, I’m bent on visiting Concepcion for the Tampisaw Festival. Is there any way that I could spend the night in the island? … I could take the cottage at Marbuena Beach Resort but the price over my budget.
I’ve only explored like 1/5th of Concepcion and having Agho as my base would really give me much convenience.
Thank You.
I love this place! It’s a tiny paradise all for yourself. I enjoy strolling alone around the island although it gets rocky at the otherside. A trek to the hill offers a comanding view of the whole island. Only a few caretakers live here and is basically restricted to other people but my cousin owns it so it’s easier to get here. Also, Agho offers utmost privacy, which is why I like it even better!
good day! can i ask how much their room rates?? ur response is highly appreciated..thank you so much
