Antique




Antique P is a province of the Philippines located in the Western Visayas region. Its capital is San Jose and is located at the western portion of Panay Island, bordering Aklan, Capiz, and Iloilo to the east. Antique faces the Sulu Sea to the west.

Antique was one of the three old sakups (districts) of Panay before the Spanish colonizers arrived in the islands. The Antique was then known as Hantik, which was named after the large red ants found on the island, called lantik-lantik. (See History section below.)

Google Earth puts high-resolution images of Panay on the map

You can now get to see actual buildings in selected areas of Panay Island through Google Earth, which has recently released high-resolution images of the island. Google Earth is a free virtual globe application, where you can tour around the world and see satellite images of places. About 2 days ago, Google Earth released the hi-res images for Iloilo City, Guimaras (Jordan, Sibunag, San Lorenzo), Aklan (Kalibo), Antique (Pandan, Hamtik, Sibalom, San Jose), and also Negros Occidetnal (Moises de Padilla, Isabela, Murcia and La Carlota). Having high-resolution images mean that you can see buildings, houses, and even cars on the road.

Pahinis de Laua-an of Antique in Kasadyahan 2007

Pahinis de Laua-an came to Iloilo from Antique to revel in the Dinagyang 2007 Kasadyahan Competition. The tribe aims to promote the native product of the town, which is muscovado sugar and the deliciously sweet delicacies derived from it.

No rest for tourism promotion in Iloilo

EVEN in last quarter of the year, there is no stopping for tourism promotion in the province of Iloilo, both from the municipal and the national levels.

Preparing for the region’s grandest tourism event, the Best of the Region Tourism Assembly, the Iloilo Tourism Officers Association (ITOA) will get a taste of what it is like mounting one grand presentation of the provinces’ best festivals, products and destination.

THE tourism potentials of Western Visayas will be like an open book showcasing colorful and unique destination attractions on October 23 to 29, 2006.

Director Edwin Trompeta of the Department of Tourism here said in a PIA interview that the activity is in line with the government’s development and investment plan for the country in recognition to the tourism industry’s role as one of the major engines for socio-economic development.
