THE tourism potentials of Western Visayas will be like an open book showcasing colorful and unique destination attractions on October 23 to 29, 2006.

Director Edwin Trompeta of the Department of Tourism here said in a PIA interview that the activity is in line with the government’s development and investment plan for the country in recognition to the tourism industry’s role as one of the major engines for socio-economic development.

Guimaras coralsAmong those surveyed were the underwater world of the coasts of the villages of Tando, Cabalagnan and the Taklong Island National Marine Reserve, areas that are badly hit by the oil spill.

The province’s landmark, Balaan Bukid or Ave Maria Purisima Shrine on top of the mountain of the capital town Jordan, is a pilgrimage site of Catholic devotees specially during Holy Week. On top of the mountain is a large cross and a chapel. It offers a scenic view of Iloilo City across Guimaras Strait.
