Cebu Pacific Air, the Philippines’ largest flag carrier has just opened a new route from Iloilo to Cagayan de Oro (and vice versa). The new Iloilo to Cagayan de Oro flight will be scheduled thrice weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays starting October 14, utilizing an Airbus A319 aircraft. The move is expected to stimulate increased passenger traffic in the Iloilo Airport, the 4th busiest airport in the Philipppines (in 2010).

Cebu Pacific is the only airline offering direct flights from Western Visayas to Northern Mindanao. The Iloilo to Cagayan de Oro flight lasts approximately 1 hour. Flight 5J695 (Iloilo to Cagayan de Oro) departs the Iloilo airport at 1250 noontime while Flight 5J696 (Cagayan de Oro to Iloilo) departs the Cagayan de Oro Airport at 1420 in the afternoon.
Come October 14, Iloilo will have direct flights to four cities: Manila, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro. In 2010, Cebu Pacific flew 907,505 passengers in and out of the Iloilo Airport. The figure represents 58% of the total passenger traffic in the Iloilo Airport. The airlines’ Iloilo – Davao service have been hugely successful, which could have prompted the opening of second route to Mindanao.
Cagayan de Oro City is the capital of Misamis Oriental Province and the regional center of Northern Minadao. Cagayan de Oro is popular for its white water river rafting and its position as a gateway to other provinces of Northern Mindanao. In the vicinity of Cagayan de Oro are: Maria Cristina Falls in Iligan, Dahilayan Adventure Park in Bukidnon, and the island province of Camiguin. A new airport in Laguindingan, Cagayan de Oro is expected to open soon replacing the Lumbia Airport currently servicing the city.

@aktung… exactly… But home is where your heart is… a hotel and vacation places cannot replace the joy of home … But of course i enjoy much of going-out for places and fun it brings… and i am wishing i would be living in an Island… if that will be my home… thatll be great since i believe things are looking good in there… foods, the tranquility and stuff :)
@all…of course having fun while miles and miles away from home is creepy and youre on edge hahahaha… better off close at home and fun for that matter …
@Vic theres a new word for that . Its called STAYCATION hehe. As for having fun it all depends on what kind of person you are. It all depends on the level of excitement =). Scary for other myt be boring fer yo
@iloson…. you know thats one of the idea that i kinda injecting here few months ago…. to make the river as festive as its trying to be…. when you look just into the river and you see boats all over where one could sail up which is fun and laughter, and what good is you would just get back home that easy in a minutes when you wanted to, its like a holiday vacation place right in front of your door… you dont need to get far to get all those things… when you would only get on the river and do many crazy things….in short a very near close at hand fun is just within our grip… and thats adds up to outright fun-fun… :)
@aktung… i strongly agree… people are accustomed to the practice that river is a trash can … they dumped everything in there… refuse, sewage, etc.. But in these times its beginning to change … One thing need to beautify is the prime state area …. its still untouched in months… i believe it has great potential to be a terrific esplanade park with great number of visitors given numerous attributes thereat
Hopefully kung mahuman next year ang project ni Senator Frank Drilon nga Iloilo River Esplanade, tani ang sunod nila develop ang aton suba butangan sang mga floating restaurant. I’m sure damo gid maattract sina. Plus may inugpatindog pa man nga theme park dra lapit sa SM.
Dako ang potential sang Iloilo.
When it comes to beaches, Nothern Iloilo has a lot of white sand beaches pareho sang Boracay ang kulang lang gid investors. Ara man ang Bukari sa Leon our little Baguio. Kulang lang gid sa aton is investors.
Amo na nga tani untatan na nila pamulitika kag magbinuligay promote sang aton syudad kag probinsya.
tane matigayon guid man ne but not at the expense of the IloIlo river damo na ga lutaw nga sagbot sa suba. Mga Ilonggo nga ga lagaw mostly wla diciplina. Suba na lang ne mo. Resources need protection too. How will we bring in tourism if we end up with a stinkin river in the future? Hopefully the city government will do something to protect the river.
@iloso…. you know thats one of the idea that i kinda injecting here few months ago…. to make the river as festive as its trying to be…. when you look just into the river and you see boats all over where one could sail up which is fun and laughter, and what good is you would just get back home that easy in a minutes when you wanted to, its like a holiday vacation place right in front of your door… you dont need to get far to get all those things… when you would only get on the river and do many crazy things….in short a very near close at hand fun is just within our grip… and thats adds up to outright fun-fun… :)
@midnightclubPCL…. chuplado ah… why you guys having Negro-Phobia huh?….. are they threat to us? hihihihih…. yup… speaking of Passi…. their pineapple is very very delicious … and of course why you guys have to fly to Cagayan for a girl????? …. Plane Ticket and accomodation worth a thousand… and speaking of tourism… it still struck me and wondering why they do not include Iloilo in tourism promotion video despite it gained years and years of title as the best tourism festivals in whole Philippines… The agency do not include dinagyang and prefer Mascara and all , yet the latter are not represented in ALiwan or in International Festival…Dinagyang is a gold symbol of Iloilo Cultural , Historical and Ethnic Background… that is how this land was founded and known for the Western Civilization …. and they had found out — There is Civilization here as civilized as them… the friars wrote it down carefully, drawn the colorful clothes of natives , the school system ( buthuan), the religious conviction ( maka-ako divine being), sovereignty of the place and All… No festival in any part of Philippines rival that … No history to recall… :)
YAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwnnnnnnnnnnnn…….

@rhey…. true…. there’s something going on and media plays certain role over the whistle-blowing too… its systemic problem….lagay…pabaon…pampadulas…karinyo…gift….and so on … According to the Ombudsman report… many seem to take advantage of these… first the corrupt officials….second his families and relatives….third his friends….forth the church…. fifth…his 2nd wive and so on and on…
para kay rhey, il c 2 8 dat ur gov., cong. and mayor wil get ur message so they will know who they are and wat ul gonna b.
@Iloson…Im afraid whatever the consequences my comments would be reaping…True… Media greatly shy away prospective investors in Iloilo … … @ Panay News of course.. kalibo will have international flight to accommodate the tourist ,,,its expected….we cannot do that… but surely Iloilo is moving forward…. the question is…. is Tourism helped improve the lives of akeanon???—- many say yes…. but hey look…. despite billions of incomes…. you very rarely see people of Malay have improved the standard of living…. why is it so?… first…. the profits goes to the selected few ( rich influencial people ),,and the rest ( corporate tax, invironmental fee, all taxable goods and services in there etc) are desposited back to the government…)…. in Iloilo… opening another route to certain province doesn’t suggest economic prosperity….but austerity….
CDO = WHITE WATER RAFTING!!!!!!
BUGSAY!
ELUSIVE INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS
ILOILO has an airport of international standards. But it has no international flights. Zero. Nada. Wala. Bingkong. Itlog.
On the other hand, the airport in Kalibo, Aklan has 17 international flights bringing in diverse tourists and investors from Hongkong, China, Japan and South Korea. And these foreigners are not only the nationals from these countries. Some are from Europe and America.
Why doesn’t Iloilo have international flights? Airline companies seem to be shying away from Iloilo despite its modern airport that has been operating since three years ago.
Is this just a simple case of “poor marketing” of Iloilo?
Or is it because Iloilo has nothing to offer interesting to tourists and investors?
It’s because of Panay News… who is so bias and delivers all negative news about Iloilo everyday.
@rhey, do you have any strong evidence? Why not file them to the court?
Last April 2011 my employer from Texas has a great desire to branch out in Iloilo but the only thing that hinders him to do so, are the reports that he reads from the news, and I was so surprised when he gave me some news bits he took specifically from PANAY NEWS (I didn’t know that Panay News is that widely read), I keep on depending Iloilo from him, citing all the positive features that Iloilo offers to any businessmen. Until now he is not yet decided. He has yet to make some more research according to him.
See? Our city and province has a lot to offer business and tourism wise. pero ugaling lang wala naton gina promote, instead mahilig kita sa mga kutso-kutso. Suggest ko tani sa aton newspapers nga ang eheadline nila ang manami nami man tani about our city indi nga ang pinaka law-ay kag daw binayaran klase balita.
*defending… sorry for the typo.
Damo pa ko nabal-an nga gin himo sang Panay News especially sang gina construct palang ang Coal Fired Power plant. Pero indi ko na di pag estorya kay karon kutso2x na gwa ya.
difference is kalibo has a little white sand beach called Boracay. We dont =) . What can we offer to these people to spend XXX amount of dollars to come and see IloILo. Every other city has malls and concrete spires jutting from the earths crust. If we are destroying every century old building that we can find here in this once proud city. What can we offer them? =)
e finalize na nila ang byahe iloilo-korea vice versa. ang cebu pacific naga expand man bala every year.madamo gid ang maka binipisyo. isa na ang mga koreans nga gusto mag tuon dri, mga learning center, tapos mga boarding house o mga ilistaran, smallville kag iban pa. south korea belong to 4 tigers of asia..damu gd benipisyo indi lang ang cebu pacific.tanan kita sa iloilo.i hope sa 2012 na. lantawun talang…
@all… apparently much needed ang Iloilo to Seoul vise versa because many koreans are in iloilo and when they vacation in Boracay… they might choose Iloilo to be their station due to its proximity, by land lang ang travel and due to presence of several Language School here. so their (KOREANS) preference is direct flight from Seoul to Iloilo and vice versa if there is any… Nevertheless, it needs due consideration fsuch as feasibility study…and koreans means much cash inflows than the local passers-by like those in Mindanao area…
tne madaun na gd man ang international flights ky muna nlang gnahulat sang kadam.an d sa iloilo spec. mga OFW nga gawork sa HongKong.kag isa pa gd,damu d Koreano nga ngaskol language ky education center ta sng Philippines..te kng mgka direct flyt iloilo-Korea mas hapos ang pag transport sng mga Koreans kag magadamu pagd cla..hoping 4 dat asap^_^

Of the two ILO-GENSAN vs ILO-ZAM, which do you think will have more chance of materializing?
i go for ilo-gensan………maraming ilonggo sa south cotabato….dati PAL used to have ilo-gensan flights
mayo gid ang ilo-gensan, damo to taga iloilo sa so. cot. esp koronadal, sultan kudarat kag maguindanao. sang una may direct flight ang Pal ilo-gensan..
Wonder why they dont use Boeing 737s anymore. Id love to fly in the newer version
The current Airbus fleet is more fuel efficient than the Boeing 737-400 or else. It’s all about saving money;-)
Good to happen. Now it’s very easy access to all Ilonggos and Cagayanos having this flight 3 times a week is really exciting! :)
this is really nice maybe id consider a vacation to CDO now whenever im in Iloilo =)
