Just recently, Megaworld Corporation held a public hearing and revealed their plan for the development of the 54 hectare old airport lot in Mandurriao called the “Iloilo Business Park”. Luckily Bernie was able to attend the meeting and was able to relay the juicy details.The representatives from Megaworld were able to display the layout design of the Iloilo Business Park, the components of which include BPO offices, residential condominiums, a hotel, convention center, commercial and retail center, skills training center and recreational facilities.

The runway of the old airport will be turned into an 8 lane highway and will be the main artery of the Iloilo Business Park. Along this road will be mostly low-rise to mid-rise buildings (up to 12 floors) for commercial spaces including BPO offices. At the center of the property is a large space for a 5,000 seater convention center and a hotel (hint). At the southern end is reserved for a hypermart and a theme park, both of which will be developed after the other components.
The Iloilo Business Plan was devised so that all people coming from Mandurriao-ALEOSAN and going to the City Proper or Molo will be passing by the Megaworld Property
In related news, concerned citizens of Iloilo are advocating the preservation of the control tower of the old airport owing to its sentimental and heritage value. The Ilonggos are asking Megaworld to spare the demolition of the structure and turn it into a landmark to remind people of the Old Iloilo Airport instead.

I fully respect these private business owners like SM, Megaworld, the Floretes, Robinson’s, Atrium, Imprerial Plaza, Iloilo Supermart, Marymart, the Sarabias, the Gorricetas, the new owner of Hotel del Rio, Gaisano and the rests because I can see their sincerity in the city of ILOILO and the provinces as well. I think they are already building the HQ office for the megaworld construction. You can see it across the old airport building. So we can assume that the construction will start no later than 2010… As for the roads, yeah we really need to do something about them. they are poorly built and some need to be widen, especially from Jaro to Leganes. They got some of the worst traffic over there…

Vandalism is one of the main problems in any places in the world. Ang aton nga mga pulis dapat alisto guid ina sila sa pagbantay sining mga vandalismos. They do the sh**s in the middle of the night that nobody can see them. This activity should be stop. Fine and 5 years imprisonment is the best option.
BTW, I noticed that the electrical wirings and cable wirings are criss-crossing above the buildings all around the city. Like in the subdivisions the wirings are installed under the ground, I think we can try that too. Really, it’s dirty looking. We need to address this problem to the city gov’t or maybe to the national gov’t by passing the resolution appropriating the budget to fix these wirings in order to make our city neat and clean looking. Just my 2 cents. :)

If I just base my opinions on the layout plans, there is nothing impressive about it at all. I’m quite dissappointed with Palafox. I know they could’ve done better. But who knows the WOW factor may show up on the buildings. Knowing Megaworld’s projects in Manila, they might shock us with super impressive architectures.
Even President Obama endorsed Iloilo, Philippines as one of the Call Center spot in the near future! the progress of the city again is becoming slow. There is so many projects till now it’s not finished, I’ve heard that while I’m outside of the country these project are all started but last week that I came back from vacation still there is no development. Of course we all know, election is approaching that’s why these politicians (“CORRUPT”) will be using these project for their own purpose. “Tani ma lusbot ang mga bulsa sng mga corrupt nga politico para mabalik ang kwarta nga pinangabudlayan sng tawo sa tawo man liwat”. mspl, you are 100% right on that one. I read in the paper that the gov’t has increased the budget of the Flood Control that they are now working. It said that they are going to widen the “river”, so water can access to it during habagat season. It’s good if I am there so I can visit the location. At this time I am kaput of “datis”. If you ask me, I would say Sporty is 100% right. All the projects must be done this year or next year. The budget of these projects are already been approved, so we don’t need to keep that budget in the “closet”. Spend all that money to all the projects that has been approved. “Wala anay kupit”. about the floodway or the flood control…any concept of developing the Iloilo city and rest of Iloilo province this should be consider always.
The reason why we need to build good roads going out of town. In the US road is very important. I wish at least just the road first and foremost. Drainage in every town needs to get fix well-done and enough potable drinking water will be the next project to be implemented. I know that they are working on stable electricity, and they need to hurry the project so the Megaworld can start the construction. Let’s get positive on all these proposals. Cheers ILOILO!
ILOILO’s demographic is increasing, and most of the businesses are booming in the future we can bring back the crown as “Queen City in the South”. Remember NOT only Boracay. We have plenty of beautiful white sand and blue water beaches here in our province. All we need are the investors. These beaches in Panay Island is CASH COW. Our leaders have to pay attention on this. The beaches will BOOST the economy of the WHOLE Western Visayas Region. The tourists will stop by the Megaworld’s “ILOILO Business Park”, then to our beaches and resorts. How about that?!! CHEERS!
Marriott International Hotel is perfect to be built in Megaworld property. And I hope someday Microtel too. I heard to one of my friends here in the US that Microtel is eyeing ILOILO City. Kudos ILOILO!

I think this is a “wake-up call” sa tanan nga mga lederes sang ciudad kag banwa sang ILOILO nga mahiliusa kag ipaiway anay ang bulsa. Ang tanan nga kuarta sang gobierno ipatupa sa mga nag kalaguba nga mga infrastraktura. Ang mga proyektos sang gobierno sa bilog nga Panay ipatuman kag ubrahon sang HUSTO, wala anay KUPIT! Sa subong RESPETO kag wala sang pamolitiko, OK! REBUILD ILOILO!!
SSS, I know, and the people here too, especially the Ilonggos here in MS. Frank reminds us of the wrath of Hurricane Katrina and Rita. We all know where to contribute our assistance. We the Ilonggos here in the US are e-mailing each other and worried the situation of the people there all over Panay Island especialy in the province of ILOILO who got the MOST hit. I have seen the plan in your flickr. It is neither futuristic nor artistic. There is also nothing Ilonggo about it. Can’t they find a planner who will subject the area to “intelligent urbanism”( = balance with nature + balance with tradition + appropriate technology + conviviality + efficiency + human scale + etc)?
Oh yeah. Some of the streets are named with obvious Castillian in influence. Let’s just see in their future press events and concept plan on how they plan to integrate the Castillian motif into the Iloilo Business Park.
