Over the decades, Deco’s La Paz Batchoy has built up the reputation of serving one of the best tasting bowl of Iloilo’s most popular dish, the La Paz Batchoy. Deco’s started as a stall in the La Paz Market in 1938. Now, the business has grown tremendously. In fact, Deco’s jas just opened a new branch in La Sallete Building, Valeria St. and another in Gaisano City

Modern interiors and facilities distinguish Deco’s new branches. They even offer free WIFI internet service to its customers.

hello….daw nahidlaw man ta sang iloilo pagkabukad ko sag website mo…..more power and thank you…………….nomartg ( england )
Best tasting?? Hmmmm I don’t think so…ang nabal-an ko ya nga nag build up reputation as the best tasting Lapaz Batchoy is Ted’s.
we’ll subjective man gyapon ang best tasting … it may be true to some, sa iban hindi man.
Thats true…its a subjective thing but with all due respect to your site, point of advice lang… you should have put a disclaimer that its just your opinion and not as a matter of fact, misleading eh. If I may ask, have you known Deco’s 10 years ago? =)
No, I have not known Deco’s 10 years ago but that doesn’t mean I can’t know anything about their reputation, or make me not credible to what my thoughts are about it. But you’re right that this website should not be just about my opinion so I’m going to edit the article. Thanks for the advice Juno ;)
No probs kid =) It’s a good thing that your site is open to suggestions. Once in a while, a person as old as I am will come across your site and will put up a reaction just like mine in some of your features. So its good that you are very open to this.
Im not taking away Deco’s reputation as one of the first to have a name in the batchoy rows of Lapaz. Ted’s has built up its reputation too for having a good, if not the best tasting Lapaz Batchoy in Iloilo. It’s not an overnight success, its an honest to goodness story of hardwork and an example of a true Ilonggo success story, unlike what is happening to Deco’s right now which I heard is being bankrolled(or was it bought?) by a certain chinese businessman. They did not expand because of an overwhelming demand. Pasensya na to’ kay Kilala ko ang tag-iya sang Ted’s, so maybe im a little biased but to be fair with them, they have done so much to promote this Ilonggo dish. That is one thing that the Ilonggo’s should be proud of.
Thanks and More power to your site!!!
@Jon: Ok ah, hagan2 lang
@Juno: Yeah, I have a lot to learn about Iloilo, I admit. It’s a learning process for me.
I just hope the competition is healthy. Ultimately, the consumers will benefit from a healthy competition.

hehehe ok:)
Jon, I guess you can consider me as an “Oldtimer”. I have somehow seen the growth of the establishment(Ted’s) and. It brought the dish into the National spotlight with countless shows featuring it, from Lifestyle Asia,Korina’s RatedK,GMA’s 100%pinoy,Trip na Trip,Lakbay TV…some in National Dailies and I saw also that Ted’s was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine. With my talk to the owners, they were very happy that Nationally Televised shows have took notice of the dish…they didn’t ask for it..its the shows that seek them.
About the caldo, well maski diin ka nga batchoyan diri sa Iloilo, its Caldo-all-you-want.
well, iloilo is next big thing..in terms of culinary destination..like to dine in lapaz batchoy may it decos or teds..taste it! ul forgot ur name for its really good taste.
au revoir!!!
heheheh thats true, deco’s is the best taste….
Actually what he is saying is true, according to the history of Lapaz, Deco’s use to be inside the Lapaz Public market, I am not sure now if they are still there..But the Deco’s family started it there that is why it is called Lapaz batchoy…and Ted’s after that followed. That is from the story of the oldies that I have gathered when I was still in Lapaz..
Not true. Ted’s batchoy has always been acknowledged in Iloilo as the original, even among the batchoyans in the Lapaz supermarket where the dish originated. Deco’s batchoy also claims that it is the original and has even gone as far as giving the year when it supposedly started but few Ilonggos has ever heard of Deco’s until recently when it was bought by a local businessman and was vigorously marketed as the original.
i think nothing to compare..it all taste good deco´s n ted´s lapaz batchoy as wat u said as long as healthy kg mkahatag sng maau nga serbisyo sa mga costumer..but of course every1 of them has a different taste my taste ang decos nga wla sa teds my taste ang ted´s nga wla sa deco´s as long nga namit kg makabusog,,WHATS THE DEAL?iloilo must be proud of this two business coz its originaly frm iloilo b4 its spread to other provinces,,,although aq tga negros dra q lang natilawan sa iloilo ang pinaka manamit nga batchoy..dw abs cbn vs gma compare each other..hehehe!!!bsyds depende nmn sa taste sang tawo,,dats their comment just let them basta aq nami cla 2..go go go deco´s n ted´s..
hayyy ngaa pag estoryahan pa gid, Teds guid man ang origin ahhh… matuod sa kamatu-oran decoy next na sya beh puis pa. pareho nga Iloilo taga La Paz man na sila nga duha. Diskartehanay lang na sila beh diskarte man ta mahimo man ta ka aton.
My memory goes only as far as when I was two years old… so it must be 1954.
We always went to Deco’s in Lapaz public market. I never knew then there was Ted’s…
Since late 80′s and early 90′s ive been eating at Deco’s Lapaz Market. During that time Ted’s is across the street. But when I go downtown (SM) I eat at Ted’s but for me the best tasting batchoy is to be found at Popoy’s located at Iloilo Central Market. This place is for true batchoy afficionados. Sossy types may not visit this place coz of its grimy location and questionable “cleanliness”. But for us “batchoy lovers”, we just assume that whatever impurities it may contain will be killed by the hot broth.. lolz! I know many of batchoy afficionados out there will agree that Popoy’s is the bomb! I may also recommend Boy’s batchoy at Jaro Small Market! Superb! Much better than their more commercialized competitors.
@Elmer Laureta I am also a ” Batchoy Gourmet ” although I am not ” Sossy Type” i go after ” cleanliness ” and quite a number Clean Restaurant in Iloilo who is capable of serving Batchoy with astounding Cleanliness through Clean Food Storage, handling and process and i choose them, of course considering im not “sossy”
