“); }; ?>Manila’s streets will once again hear the heart pounding beat of the drums as two contingents from Iloilo vie for the championship title in this year’s Aliwan Festival, the festival of festivals, slated this April 26-28, 2007.

Dinagyang is given privilege by the Aliwan Fiesta organizers, as the only festival that will showcase two winning tribes. These tribes are: Tribu Ilonganon winner of the Dinagyang Ati Competition and Tribu Kahilwayan winner of the Kasadyahan Dinagyang Competition. Both tribes recently had a send off party last friday to show to the Ilonggos a sneak peak of their performance for the Aliwan fest in Manila.

I’ve managed to upload the videos I took of the event. Their performance last friday is only a glimpse of what’s going to be their actual performance, so better watch their performance in Manila also.

Kahilwayan is a cultural festival in a dance-drama from which showcases the events that led to the historic uprising of the Ilonggos against Spain to its ultimate cry of victory and freedom known to us now as the Cry of Santa Barbara.

While the performance of Tribu Ilonganon will feature an creative dance interpretation of the modernization of the Ati or original settlers of Panay brought about by the coming of Malayan migrants from Borneo.

There’s tension already up in the atmosphere on who will emerge triumphant as the best festival in the country. Will Sinulog’s Lumad Basakanon remain to be Aliwan’s defending champion? or will the Ilonggo contingents be able to regain their winning spree in the past Aliwan Competitions?

We’re all awaiting to see what the country’s best has to offer. In the meantime, I’ve compiled a collection of the performances of the contingents from the other places in the country who are expected to join this year’s Aliwan brawl at the CCP Grounds.

    chy. kitams mo na photos ko? all my bets were in the top 10. and correct man ako sa top 3 bets ko.

    it simply shows that the visayans are the best in streetdancing.

    im looing forward to a bigger aliwan next year (kay wala na election! ahahah)

    congrats to Jalandoni menmorial HS for putting up a good fight. im so proud of you. i was there from quirino down to CCP. i know indi madali ang mag perform sa 4-kilometer route nga ato. under the heat of the sun.

    2nd ang highest nga nag daug from Dinagyang, ala man overall for festivals kay kita lang man ang nag send sang dua k contingents

    So what’s the Dinagyang’s overall rank? Even if we didn’t bag the top prize, I am still happy that they gave their best and made us Ilonggos proud! Mabuhay ang Tribu Ilonganon at Tribu Kahilwayan.

    I saw the performances yesterday both at Quirino at Aliw Theatre and even though we did not get the ultimate prize, I am still proud of Tribu Ilonganon… they were great…

    I guess next year mas mayo guid ang competition…

    congratulations to sinulog and dinagyang… goes to show na powerhouse talaga when it comes to festivals ang mga taga-visayas…

    Iloilo got the following 2007 Aliwan Fiesta awards :

    - Reyna ng Aliwan 1st runner up
    - Float Category 3rd prize
    - Runners-up Kahilwayan Festival of Santa Barbara, Iloilo
    - Street Dancing Category 1st Runner Up
