“); } ?>It was 4 months ago when a video entitled “tonton crush ng bayan” was uploaded in youtube. The hiligaynon-dubbed video is a spoof of the movie “Troy” and was uploaded by a user named “talibong1″. A mania of sorts then took place in internet cafes across Iloilo City, it seems the video has gained rapid popularity among young Ilonggos.

A video then followed entitled “tonton eat my chorizo” and “tonton ang paghaharap” which made the series more popular

Tonton ang Paghaharap, their most watched video with more than a million views in youtube.

It was not until talibong1 released their next video that they gained widespread popularity in the internet and in actuality. The video is entitled “benjo mangayo ko kwarta”, a spoof of the movie “300″.

Their popularity soared that it seemed whenever you go in any internet cafe in the city, someone is sure to be watching the video. You’ll also frequently hear some lines used in the video when you’re walking along the streets or in a crowd like “Kabalo ka ni!”, “Ari ho.. tan-awa tiyan ko gapi-ud .. nah … swabe!”, and “m …m …”. It gained much popularity that rumors started circulating about a controversy between talibong1 and a university, which was mentioned in the video.

Despite the rumors, more episodes of the benjo series were released:

rumors man lng na. may maisog kag mabaskog pa na bla kay benjo kag talibong. tilawan lang nila kay “tonite we will dine in hell”. sakto mr benjo and talibong? indi gani kapugong gobyerno ta sang pirated cd/dvd ang kay benjo kag talibong pa.

May rumors nga ga lapta na gina pangita ang nag himo sang mga videos nga ini kay e-akusar sila sang mga abugado sang 300. May copyright ang mga cine nga ini kag indi pwede ma lango-lango.
Abaw kabay pa baskog ang abugado sang nag himo sining kaladlawan nga Benjo kay basi didto sya sa presuhan ma padayun sang iya nga talento.

ay hou…ako man gani nakibot pati diri sa cavite ano ina ang gina lantaw sang mga high school and college students diri sa shop namon (internet cafe) nakibot gid ako sang pagkabati ko nga ilonggo ang gina lantaw nila sa you tube…kag kun indi tungod sa ila wala ko kabalo nga may ara gali nga amo sina ng video sa youtube…hehehehehe

and to think of it that the students who are watching tonton and benjo series are pure tagalog and have no ilonggo roots but they enjoy watching the vido clips…

sa subong gina download ko sa youtube and gina burn ko sa CD ang video para natago ko…and ang ibang nga clips gin upload ko na sa friendster ko

lipay gid ko ya sa iloilo kapin nagid nga may bag-o na nga airport and soon ang megaworld (iloilo business center)
