It was yet another successful celebration of the Chinese New Year in Iloilo. Thousands gathered in the city to celebrate the Chinese New Year and welcome the year of the metal tiger. During the highlights, the Iloilo Chinese New Year 2010 featured a grand parade, cultural presentations, food festival, night market, and a fireworks display to cap off the night. Here are some pictures of the Chinese New Year celebration in Iloilo.

Hi Marcos,

Okay man ang Chinese New Year ah, pero syempre it’s not as grand as the Dinagyang or Paraw Regatta Festivals. Dapat binulan gd na vacation leave mo Nong Lee, hehe.
hi, this is jess of scorpion fireworks. we were the shooter of the pyrotechnics show for iloilo’s chinese new year. thank you for the very nice shot you got of the fireworks display. can we ask for copies of the pictures you posted in your site? we would greatly appreciate it if you would do so. thank you in advance.
hello jess. Congrats for the great fireworks display :) We really enjoyed it. You can freely use the images posted here.
A lot of us are wondering why you didn’t join this Dinagyang 2010′s Luces in the Sky?
Hello, Marcos!
If I may answer your question why Scorpion did not join this year’s Dinagyang Pyro Competition…
As you may recall last year’s competition, Scorpion end up with second place, which caused doubts and protest by the spectators, because as most of the people see it, Scorpion should have won the first place. The people thought that way, not because they are rooting for their hometown representative, but according to the presentation itself. The competition believe to have been corrupted by an outsider, and Scorpion was sold out by their fellow Ilonggos.
Scorpion will proudly admit defeat as long as it was just and fair, just like last 2008 when they won third place. And to answer the injustice of last years competition, Scorpion proved themselves by winning the Enchanted Kingdom 2009 Sky Wizard Fireworks Competition, one of the country’s prestigious pyro competition, last Oct 24.
Scorpion team spent great effort, time and money, but that effort was not rewarded fairly, instead they felt betrayed.
So as long as the future Dinagyang Pyro Competition will not be conducted fairly, we may not likely to see Scorpion participating on the said event. It is a dismay for every Ilonggo that they will not see they’re very own pride grab the glory on their own territory, having an outsider corrupting their own event, and sold out by fellow Illongos.
We have to remember that Dinagyang is now a very pretigous event, known to be Best Tourism Event in the Philippines for four consecutive years. Thus, the new distinction has been given as “Dinagyang Festival in the Hall of Fame.†Hopefully, this issue of a one part event such as the pyro competition will not put shame to the name of Dinagyang.
thank you very much for the photos. we could appreciate the show only when we see the pictures because we cannot watch it while firing. we did not join the competition this year because we have several complaints last year that were not addressed accordingly. it’s a long story :) anyway, thanks again for the superb photoshots of the fireworks.
I love the magnificent shots, especially the ones with the fireworks, bravo again to you marc!
