Iloilo Flood Pictures and Videos

The worst flood in decades has just hit Iloilo. More than 80% of the Iloilo City was affected and a large portion of Iloilo Province was devastated, damaging homes, agriculture, livestock and infrastructure. The widespread flash floods was caused by the large volume of rainfall from Typhoon Frank and to an extent environmental changes in the uplands and lowlands: global warming, deforestation, urban development.

Iloilo needs your help! There are still thousands of families who lost their homes and are currently living in evacuation centers or in makeshift houses beside streets and bridges. These unfortunate people need food, water, clothes, medicines, etc… Any form of assistance extended to the affected families of Iloilo City will be deeply appreciated. Marc, bud! Am glad to know that you’re okay. I was a little bit worried there as I keep checking Explore Iloilo site for latest pics coverage and nothing appeared not until today (or yesterday?). I was talking to my sister-in-law last Sat. evening and after an hour, my eyes caught the news about flash floods already. That was quick, I would say! I felt sad while watching the video. I also learned that one of the resqued
“rooftop survivors” is a cousin of mine who lives by herself. THANK GOD!

Our power supply just got back the other day, so I wasn’t able to post about the flood earlier. I also didn’t get the chance to take pictures during the flood because I was stranded here at home. Just like the rest, It’s also the first time that flood waters entered our house. It took days to clean all the mud off (we’re not even done yet).

Good that your sister got rescued. I actually didn’t get to know the extend of the damage until I saw the videos and pictures. It’s really heartbreaking.

  4. [...] exploreIloilo.com links to photos and videos of the flood. A side-story is that viewers are irate over the focus of media coverage primarily being on the capsized Princess of the Stars. Appeals have been made on this blog and elsewhere, for equal time to be devoted to places like Iloilo -and if Iloilo residents are upset, residents of Aklan, in turn, are upset that only Iloilo is in the news. I actually saw them in TV here in Italy. I was furious because I could not contact anyone from home! My cousins and aunts live in Balantang and after a few days, they were able to charge their cell phones in Gaisano City Iloilo and only by then after that flood I was able to call them and know how they are. Good thing nothing really happened although my UP memorabilia are all gone because my room got flooded as well and i was not there!

I also listened to bombo rafyo online and i heard mayor margarico of janiuay crying over the fate of his people. Too bad! I am sorry about the help, I also help but only directed to my family members who are also affected.
