The present district of Jaro used to be a separate political subdivision from Iloilo City. In fact, it was even a city and it had its own city hall, which today is the building occupied by the the Philippine National Police (PNP) located at one end of the Jaro Plaza.
Moreover, most of the present districts of Iloilo City were also seperate towns and some of their municipal hall are still intact like the old Municipal Hall of La Paz
