Jaro Fiesta 2009 – Feast of our Lady of Candles

The annual fiesta of the district of Jaro, Iloilo City is a grand event scheduled every 2nd of February. People from all over Iloilo would visit the Jaro Cathedral to honor Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria (Lady of Candles), the patron saint of Jaro, and visit friends and family living in Jaro. Typical of fiestas in the country, the households in Jaro have prepared a bountiful feast for anyone who visits them.

The highlight of the fiesta is a grand parade lead by the young women of the elite Jaro families and followed by the blessed Mother Mary in her several personas. This year 2009, the Jaro Fiesta Queen is Angelica Chan, youngest daughter of songwriter/businessman, Jose Mari Chan and Mary Ann Ansaldo.

The Jaro Fiesta is also known for its multi-million Cock Derby, which attracts cock fighting enthusiasts from all over the country.

is this the only picture you show and its not even on the date of jaro fiesta when you took it. maybe you could place some more like when the church are flock by people. also for its non relegious side like the famous “bulang”, agro industrial fare sa plaza and the coronation night. i like to see jose maria chan’s daughter.

This was posted before the Jaro Fiesta 2009. I didn’t have pictures of the Jaro Fiesta before. It was my first time visiting the Jaro Fiesta parade this year, so I have pictures now and I’ll post them in a few days. Keep visiting for updates ;)
