The Salakayan festival of Miagao is held every first week of February. Salakayan, coined from a Hiligaynon term “salakay” or to “attack” is a week long celebration that merges merry making and the arts, lore and customs of the town.
The highlight of this presentation is the "Salakayan Contest" – a street drama and dancing depicting the victorious battle of the local defenders against the moro marauders who frequently attack the shorelines of Miag-ao and divest the people of their belongings.
The Salakayan Festival embodies the rich culture and history of the people of Miag-ao which need to be preserved in the present times.
