New Iloilo airport opens on April 2007

ILOILO City – The new Iloilo airport of international standards will open for commercial operations on April 2007, announced Senator Franklin Drilon.

All civil and electrical works at the P6.5-billion airport should be finished this year, and its navigational and landing facilities, and terminal will be tested in early 2007, the senator revealed yesterday.

The first commercial flight at the new airport, whom Drilon considered to be his biggest project for Iloilo, is tentatively scheduled on April 15, 2007.

    Hello!

Now that our Iloilo International Airport soon to open, we can get a direct flight Los Angeles Airport to Iloilo International Airport, or Iloilo to LA. Is that right? I hope so! Cheers to all!

We live in the UK and really want a direct flight to Iloilo that would be fantastic. Does anyone know what airlines will be using the new airport.

      Dear,

We went their last month but The runway is too short for huge comercial planes. It only can be reached by planes like B737, A319, A320 or smaller types. So you always need to have a stop over in Hong Kong or somewhere else.

unfortunately until foreign airlines or even domestic airlines connect directly to international points, years may pass once a new airport of international standards is opened in the philippines. this is due to “local interests” of PAL, 2P and 5J airlines. just look at davao, merely 2 years after opening there is a connecting flight with 5J to hongkong and singapore. hopefully they will come forward with connecting flights from iloilo in due time. i reacon they will pick up tourists from korea though before they connect to any other place outside SEAia. 5J has been quite aggressive with new routes lately. but i do not think any foreign airline will be allowed to fly in directly to iloilo before local couterparts are interested in flying internationally from there themselves.

well let us know what airliness are allowed to fly in d new international airport so we can get a direct flight from US..but i doubt it coz it takes years for this new airport to build..so much bidding and more cuts the usual..iloilo is getting there but all these are slowwwww process ..what is quicker is when foreigners gets interest n rebuilding d whole panay island..but hey now Philippines are run by foreign investors not d filipinos themselves….what the government gonna say with salaries and retirements of their people???now ilonggos are looking only at d building of the new airport but whats next after the airport..i didnt see any road widening from my last visit!!..driving is still bumpy…floods is everywhere when it rains..the only thing i know for sure is lots of KOREANS living n iloilo city now…so what incentives do the govt employees gets from working aside from yearly raise when i heard they still have to fight for a raise!! with soooo many foreigners investing n Philippines for sure a lot of revenue to d country..but who is enjoying it???that sucks now…

Guys, Once again I’m sorry to say that this airport is just of “International Standards” BUT will not cater foreing flights.
Only domestic, this is only an upgrade to our very old equipments and facilities in Manduriao. And not the next Naia of sort. Disappointing but it’s better so as not to expect.

    Cheers!

    Yes that’s true jackass.

IMO, I don’t think it’s disappointing. I’ve been told that it usually takes years for a new airport to cater to international flights especially for Iloilo, which is currently does not receive international flights.

Airlines are the ones who make the decision to open international flights not the aiport perse.

  10. Posted February 26, 2007 at 1:46 pm |

whew!! then d only thing for sure ..domestic fares will go up to keep d “international airport” functioning to pay its employees and security system….sucks!!

  11. Posted February 27, 2007 at 4:13 am |

I hope the new airport will take less than five years to start receiving international flights. Again, this will be the airlines decision and not the other way around.

Kalibo Airport will start their international flights from Korea thru Asia Spirit Airways. Two weeks after, another airline, Pearl Pacific Air will have direct flights South Korea ro Kalibo as well.

Here’s an excerpt from the news about the airport development in Panay:

“Aside from the Asian Spirit, Pacific Pearl airlines will also start to cover direct flights from South Korea to the Kalibo Airport.

While Asian Spirit will have its main flight on the first week of March, Pacific Pearl will have its own on the third week of the same month.

These flights are projected to bring Korean tourists to Kalibo without suffering through the hustle and bustle of connecting flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Aklan Cong. Florencio Miraflores said Kalibo will be the first in Western Visayas to receive international flights ahead of the international airport in Sta. Barbara in Iloilo.”

Boeing 747, Airbus 340, Airbus 330. Good deal. We love this! Guess what, these are the planes that i use to fly American Airline, Philippine Airline and Bristish Ailine. Cheers! :)
