ive been following your blog since i came across it a few months ago and its really nice to see/read posts regarding the developments in our city.
really excited for dinagyang. unfortunately i still can’t get tickets for the grandstand, para lang daw sa mga bisita. luoy man mga locals. hehe
ask if do you have any idea on the new development near sm city? plazuela de iloilo. the posters are very prominent and looks classy.
thanks.
Yeah most of the seats at the Grandstand are reserved for officials and dignitaries but there are still seats for sale to the general public. Personally, I think the grandstand is too crowded and strict (guarded), so I prefer the other judging areas. The Plazuela de Iloilo is an upcoming commercial complex owned by the Floretes. I’ve made a mention about it here: http://www.exploreiloilo.com/iloilo-november-2009-updates-part-1-of-3-commercial-developments-in-mandurriao.html
the poster failed to capture the essence of Dinagyang. . .
it looks so studio-ish and got that “yehey we are going to the beach” mood instead of having the vibrancy and energy of the festival.
by the way, the ‘ati’ is the inspiration/reference of the Dinagyang.
the festival has reached “hall of fame” status.
questions:
1. what has the festival done to the plight of the ‘atis’?
2. has the festival improved their quality of life?
3. does the money that the festival foundation rake-up during Dinagyang contributed to the welfare of the ‘atis’?
4. are the ‘atis’ at the losing end of this all?
just asking.
Dinagyang or, Ati-Atihan is NOT new for me. As an Ilonggo, I have been to these juvial celebrations countless times before. But, once you get into the beat of the drums, you’re drawn to it! Again, contemplating to what 659834 have said above, after the dusts settled down, what has it accomplished? Especially to the plight of Atis? I’m short in saying that they are probably the most exploited cultural minority in the country. The city of Iloilo and the businesses that supports the celebration are the ones who will (again) benefit in this upcoming Dinagyang… unless proven otherwise. By the way, I agree 659834 about the poster… something is lacking or missing or what? I liked last year’s, I still have a copy of it.
nimi gid lang ang poster po….luoy man nag himo…hehe
hisa lang na ya si 659834..nu inyo poster sa sinulog haw?
