Built at the twilight of Spanish rule, San Joaquin cemetery was initiated by Fray Mariano Vamba, the last Augustinian parish priest of the town. Baroque architecture with oriental influence characterizes the overall design of the Campo Santo. San Joaquin Cemetery is perhaps the grandest and best preserved in the entire province of Iloilo.

Terraced stone steps culminate at the cemetery’s crowning glory its capilla, sumptuously decorated with stone carvings of a distinct floral and leaf pattern. The capilla also, known as “Campo Santo,” is made of coral rocks and baked bricks.

How to Get to San Joaquin
The San Jaoquin Cemetery is located along the main highway in San Jaoquin Town. To go there, you can ride a San Joaquin Jeepney parked in front of Iloilo Supermart Molo Branch or in the Terminal Market (locally called “Super”) near Robinsons Place. Just tell the driver to drop your off in San Joaquin’s “Patyo” / Cemetery.

Am proud of the builder of the Camposanto of San Joaquin – Fray Mariano Vamba!
