Tigbauan hosts one of SEAFDEC’s Aquaculture Development facility. The 40-hectare complex includes various research laboratories, hatcheries, and broodstock tanks. Visitors can go see FishWorld, a museum-aquarium-visitor center dedicated to science and environment education about aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity, aquaculture, fisheries, ecotourism, and the aquatic sciences. The entrance fee and tour for FishWorld is P10.
The Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) is an intergovernmental organization established in December 1967 for the purpose of promoting sustainable fisheries development in the region. The Philippines-based SEAFDEC Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) was established in 1973 to conduct research, develop technologies,
disseminate information, and train people in the farming of fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweeds for food, livelihood, equity, and sustainable development.
AQD operates the Tigbauan Main Station (TMS) in Tigbauan, Iloilo as the general headquarters; Igang Marine Station (IMS) in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras for broodstock development and management; Dumangas Brackishwater Station (DBS), Dumangas, Iloilo for brackishwater aquaculture; and Binangonan Freshwater Station at Tapao Point, Binangonan, Rizal for freshwater aquaculture.

The SEAFDEC Main Station and FishWorld Museum is located along the main highway in Tigbauan. To go there, you can ride a Tigbauan Jeepney parked in front of Iloilo Supermart Molo Branch or in the Terminal Market (locally called “Super”) near Robinsons Place. You can also ride a Guimbal, Miagao, or San Joaquin Jeepney. Just tell the driver to drop your off in SEAFDEC.
Wow marc, this is a very nice place, never knew that SEAFDEC has Fish world. Hope someday they could upgrade their facilities and expand to resemble something like an oceanarium, like in Manila.

The fish world in SEAFDEC if given a chance to be upgraded will be a potential site for local tourism not only that Iloilo now flocked by foreigners because of the new international airport……it is an opportunity to have an Oceanrium here….but as the fish world curator said to me they dont have enough budget for the project….hay thesis d nakasalalay paman dira tani…..

there’s a lot of remaining marine animals inside aquariums a dozens of them I cant name them all( 3/ of what is shown here)of this enormous structures…. they are exotic too …. this is almost an Aquatic Museum since it displays preserved mollusk, bones, etc…. many fishes looks ugly but fascinating … and afraid of camera flash…
