Study underway to bridge 7 Visayan islands

Posted by Explore Iloilo

Bacolod City (26 February) — Negros Occidental leaders in Western Visayas are embarking on a grand plan to link seven Visayas Islands through bridges.

Negros occ. Governor Joseph Marañon said the Regional Development Council recently approved a resolution to conduct a study to link seven Visayan Islands dubbed “Trans-Visayas Friendship Bridges.”

The study centers on finding out if it is feasible to construct bridges connecting Bohol to Cebu, Bohol to Southern Leyte, Cebu to Negros Oriental, Negros Occ. to Iloilo and Iloilo to Guimaras.

According to Marañon League of Provinces President Gov. Erico Aumentado told him that the study is now being prepared by a Japanese firm- Philippine Consultancy Inc.

Marañon told PIA he hopes the plan would push through because this will increase commerce and industry in the Visayas Region. (PIA-LOL)

Building those bridges can be a very expensive proposition. I just hope there are creative financing ideas out there to make the project not just a reality but also financially viable and sustainable in the long run.

Would love to see the Iloilo-Guimaras-Negros Occ. Bridges be connected ASAP. I hope that these bridges well be done in the right time. I am very eager to come visit Iloilo City and Iloilo Province in the near future. Good Luck Iloilo City and Iloilo Province. Cheers! :)

i especially would like to see the Iloilo-Guimaras Bridge realized. I think this one is the most feasible among the planned bridge connections aside from the Cebu-Negros Oriental bridge.
