Iloilo Airport Passenger Traffic Increases by 23.3% in 2009

Passenger traffic to the Iloilo Airport totaled 1,324,148 in 2009 translating to an increase of 23.3% compared to last year’s figures. The newly released data from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) still affirms the Iloilo Airport’s position as the 4th busiest airport in the country according to passenger traffic volume.

Paraw Regatta 2010 Winners

The results of the Samba de Regatta Music and Mardi Gras Competition during the Paraw Regatta Festival 2010 are out! The Samba de Regatta contest was held last february 18, 2009 in Downtown, Iloilo City with a repeat performance during the Paraw Regatta Festival 2010 highlights last February 22, 2010. Without further ado, here are the list of winners:

Minor Awards

Best Duo Performers – Grupo Mezza Latino (Mandurriao National High School)

Best in Costume – Grupo Mezza Latino

Best in Music – Grupo Del Oeste West Visayas State University)
Best in Parade – Grupo Fuerte Baile (Fort San Pedro National Highschool)
Best in Choreography – Grupo Fuerte Baile

Major Awards

2nd runner-up – Grupo Del Oeste

1st runner-up – Grupo Messa Latinos
Champion – Grupo Fuerte Baile

Congratulations to the winners! Now the question remains, will we be seeing Grupo Fuerte Baile during the Aliwan Fiesta 2010 in Manila this April? They have already been invited by the organizers as a guest performer but there have been reports that they may be joining this year’s Aliwan to represent the Paraw Regatta Festival under the Province of Guimaras (since Guimaras is also a co-organizer of the Paraw Regatta Festival).

Dinagyang 2010 Coverage

Be prepared this weekend to witness the whole City of Iloilo revel during the Dinagyang Festival 2010 and experience an explosion of sound, color, and dance. The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural celebration in Iloilo City held on the fourth Sunday of January, the week after the Sinulog In Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan. It is held both to honor the Santo Nino and to celebrate the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.

Dinagyang Festival Parade Route

Know where the action is during the Dinagyang Festival and view the parade route where the tribes will be passing by and staging their performance for the Kasadyahan and Dinagyang Ati Competitions. There will be 4 judging areas namely: Freedom Grandstand, Provincial Capitol (Arroyo Fountain), Robinsons Place (cor Ledesma-Quezon), and Maria Clara Monument(Iznart-Rizal Sts. intersection, infront of Iloilo Grand Hotel).

Western Visayas Tourism Assembly 2009 Pictures

Last week (December 3 to 6), all six provinces and two highly urbanized cities in Western Visayas met in Roxas City to showcase the colorful and unique tourist attractions of region. Western Visayas is among the most visited region in the Philippines, being home to the world famous Boracay Island, Dinagyang Festival of Iloilo City, and Masskara Festival of Bacolod City along with the alluring cultural and natural attractions of Antique, Aklan, Capiz, Guimaras, Negros Occidental, and Iloilo provinces. Onlookers and visitors attending the tourism assembly were treated to the unique opportunity of experiencing the best of Western Visayas in just one place. Transcom opens call center in Iloilo

Transcom, considered as Europe’s largest business process outsourcing (BPO) firm, is currently operating in its new call center facility in Amigo Mall, Iznart. St. The company is set to hire around 1,000 to 2,000 employees for its Iloilo site. Jaro and La Paz Districts are not spared by the pattern of new developments sprouting all over the city. This is just the beginning for Jaro and La Paz because after the completion of the Iloilo Flood Control Project next year, vast land areas will be opened up to accommodate bigger investments in these flood prone districts of Iloilo City.

Iloilo November 2009 Updates Part 1 of 3- Commercial Developments in Mandurriao

With Iloilo City’s political climate sizzling, it seems developments are also sprouting in all corners of the city. 2010 is a year to watch for in Iloilo City not only because of the elections / change of leadership but also because it’s the year that the Iloilo Flood Control Project and Coal-fired Power Plant in La Paz are expected to be completed, solving two of Iloilo City’s major problems: Flooding and (insufficient, unreliable, expensive) Power. The first part of this month’s development update will feature projects and constructions along Diversion Road (Benigno Aquino Avenue), in Mandurriao District.

Smallville 21

An 8-storey hotel is in the works in Smallville Complex – Smallville 21, another development by the owner/s of Century 21,Â Highway 21 hotels and Club 21 Restobar. Smallville 21 is located in front of The Avenue Complex, beside Pirates Bar.
