The Casa Real, better known as the Old Iloilo Provincial Capitol Building, is finally going to have a major facelift soon. The development comes in light of the building’s declaration as a “National Historical Site” by the National Historical Institute (NHI) earlier this year. The Casa Real building has undergone a lot of renovations and additions from the time it became the seat of the civil government of Iloilo in 1901, used as a military garrison by Japanese Imperial Forces during WWII, up to recent years when a much bigger provincial capitol building was built and the original capitol building was left on the sidelines.

Here are some photos of the major renovations being done at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral. Back in 2007, the Archdiocese of Jaro launched a find raising campaign tagged as Project 20/11 BC or 20 million in eleven months para sa Balay ni Nuestra Snra. de la Candelaria.

Newly Renovated Facade of the Jaro Cathedral

The major works involved general repairs and improvement of the actual structure of the Jaro Cathedral especially the roof, dome, and ceilings. The damaging effects of time and the elements had already taken a toll to the antiquated Jaro Cathedral and it became a concern to replace and improve the Cathderal’s structural integrity. Aesthetic changes are also being done. Its more of a renovation than a restoration. In consolation, the Jaro Cathedral General Repair Project Team reports that careful study and consultation was done to adhere to a tasteful makeover with regards to cohering with the architecture and period of the building’s construction.

Built at the twilight of Spanish rule, San Joaquin cemetery was initiated by Fray Mariano Vamba, the last Augustinian parish priest of the town. Baroque architecture with oriental influence characterizes the overall design of the Campo Santo. San Joaquin Cemetery is perhaps the grandest and best preserved in the entire province of Iloilo.

The University of San Agustin is a private university in Iloilo City, the Philippines founded in 1904 by the Augustinian Friars under the inspiration of St. Augustine, Doctor and Father of the Church. The University of San Agustin (USA) has continued the rich legacy of scholarship exemplified by St. Augustine, the Library of the Church; Fr. Johann Gregor Mendel, O.S.A., the First Geneticist; and Fr. Manuel Blanco, O.S.A., author of Flora de Filipinas. The university is named in honor of fourth century saint Augustine of Hippo, a key figure in the doctrinal development of Western Christianity and a Doctor of the Church.

A superbly landscaped, secure and exclusive residential community, unsurpassed in beauty and elegance; only for the elite and the affluent. Palisades Iloilo is a mid-high end class residential community offering Mediterranean type houses for those who prefer building the house through them. However, lots only can be bought and the buyer can build his house using an architect and contractor of his choice. SRDC requires that the design and specs of the house be submitted for verification and approval of its architect and engineers. Palisades Iloilo is located in Pavia Town, approximate 9 kms or 10 minutes from Iloilo City.
