Clear up your schedules on the second week of February and head on over to Iloilo City for a fun experience at the Paraw Regatta Festival 2011. Now on its 39th year, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta is the oldest traditional craft event in Asia, and the largest sailing event in the Philippines.

Over the years, Iloilo Paraw Regatta has grown from a half-day sailboat race into a week long multi-event festival that it is now. Side events include the Iloilo Paraw Slalom, Miss Iloilo Paraw Regatta, Pinta de Layag Competition, Pinta Tawo Competition, Miniature Paraw Race, Rowing and Paddling Competition, Governor’s Cup Fishing Competition, Samba de Regatta, Beach Football Tournament, and the Beach Volleyball Tournament, Luces by the Sea (Fireworks Display).

Now on its 39th year, the Iloilo Paraw Regatta is the oldest traditional craft event in Asia, and the largest sailing event in the Philippines. Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival aims to celebrate the skills of the paraw sailors, and bring a fiesta spirit into their lives. And with the colorful painted sails, this spirit is brought into the lives of participants and tourists as well.

The main highlight of the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival is the thirty-kilometer distance sailing race on a course in the Iloilo Strait, running up the coast of Panay and then down the coast of Guimaras, before returning to the finish at Villa Beach.

Bacolod Masskara Festival 2010

The City of Smiles, Bacolod City, will once again pulsate with the latin beat and throb with the colorful and fun spirit of the Masskara Festival this October 2010. The highlights of the Masskara 2010 will be on October 17Â to 19 and will feature a competition among various dance groups clad in very colorful costumes.

MassKara is coined from two words: Mass, which means “many, or multitude,” and Kara, a Spanish word for “face,” thus MassKara is a mass or multitude of smiling faces.

Daily fastcrafts or fast ferries ply the Iloilo City (Muelle Loney River Wharf) to Bacolod City (BREDCO Port). Travel time is 45 minutes to one hour. There are also roll-on roll-off (RORO) vessels or slow ferries plying the Dumangas Port to Bacolod City (BREDCO Port) daily. The van terminal going to Dumangas is located at Baldoza Terminal in La Paz, Iloilo City. Travel time from Iloilo City to Dumangas is 20 minutes and from Dumangas Port to Bacolod via RORO, it is around two and a half hours.

It was yet another successful showcase of the colorful history and culture of Iloilo during the Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held last month in Manila by three Ilonggo Festivals. The Dinagyang Festival, Paraw Regatta Festival, and Kasag Festival of Banate were among the crowd favorites and were included in the top 10 of the street dance competition with the Dinagyang Festival emerging as the champion and Kasag Festival as 2nd runner-up. Aliwan 2010 winners – Dinagyang Festival grabs 1st place

Here are the results of the much awaited Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held in Manila last April 26 – 28, 2010. All three contingents from Iloilo got into the circle of winners. The Dinagyang Festival emerged as the champion with Kasag Festival of Banate, Iloilo in 3rd place and Paraw Regatta Festival as one of the runners up.

Tangyan Festival 2009 of Igbaras Photos

Salakayan Festival 2009 Photos

Five tribes performed this year during the street dance competition of Miagao’s Salakayan Festival 2009. The event was a great way to learn about the rich history and culture of the town through a series of colorful dance dramas that centered on the resilience of the people of Miagao against unfortunate events during the town’s past such as the frequent attacks of Moro pirates and natural calamities.

Iloilo Festivals vie for Aliwan Fiesta 2008 Champion: Dinagyang, Saad of Leganes and Kasag of Banate

This first week of May, the top festivals of the country will converge in Manila to compete for the title of Aliwan Fiesta 2008 champion. For those who don’t know yet, Aliwan Fiesta is the ultimate competition of festival champions with their beauty queens and floats. The highlight of the Aliwan Fiesta 2008 is the street dance competition, where spectators get to experience a non-stop explosion of color, sound, culture, and synchronized movement during the street dance competition.

This year, two festival champions of Iloilo and a special contingent, which will be taken into the limelight later, will be joining the Aliwan Fiesta 2008.

Representing the City of Iloilo will be Tribu Paghidaet, champion of the Dinagyang Festival 2008 – Ati Competition.

Dinagyang 2008 Kasadyahan Competition – Showcasing the Culture of Western Visayas on January 26

The Kasadyahan Competition is one of the main highlights of the Dinagyang Festival will be held on January 26, 2008, a day before the Dingyang Ati competition.. The dance competition features the history and culture of the various towns of Iloilo through a choreographed cultural dance.
