Opening Salvo Dinagyang Festival 2012 Photos

The beat of a thousand drums is alive in Iloilo once again. Fifteen participating tribes paraded around the streets of Iloilo for the opening salvo of the Dinagyang Festival 2012. The opening salvo parade is just a preview of the street dance performances during the highlights of the festivities. Better watch out for the main events happening on the fourth weekend of January.

The regional Kasadyahan Cometition is scheduled on Saturday morning, while the Dinagyang Ati Competition will go live on Sunday. Will Tribu Panay still regain its crown? or will the other crowd favorites emerge as this year’s new champion?

Also known as the festival of festivals of Iloilo Province, the Kasadyahan Parade and Competition is held on the third Saturday of January. The Kasadyahan Comepetition features the history and culture of the various towns in the province of Iloilo through an extravaganza of choreographed cultural dance drama presentations.

Dinagyang Ati Competition 2011 Photos

Check out photos of fourteen tribes during the recent Dinagyang Ati Comeptition 2011. The Dinagyang Ati Competition is the main highlight of the Dinagyang. Held on the 4th Sunday of January, competing tribes composed of dark-brown colored warriors perform highly choreographed dances to the fast paced beat of drums and paying homage to the child Jesus by shouting “Viva, Viva! Senyor Santo Nino!”

Dinagyang “Luces in the Sky” PyrOlympics 2011

On its fourth year, the “Luces in the Sky” Dinagyang Fireworks Competition has become bigger and brighter than ever. Thirteen shooters representing different pyrotechnic production companies from all over the Philippines delighted the thousands of spectators as they battled out the first place title of the Dinagyang PyrOlympics 2011. Within several kilometers viewing radius from the SM City Iloilo venue, the city was at a standstill for two nights during the Fireworks Comeptition held last January 20-21, 2011.

Dinagyang Festival 2011 Winners

Two new grand champions emerged during the street dance competitions of the Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2011. Tribu Pan-ay from Fort San Pedro National High School bested 13 other tribes in the “Dinagyang Ati” Competition. Meanwhile, Tribu Pantat from Zarraga town won the grand champion prize in the “Kasadyahan” category. Both tribes will represent Iloilo during the Aliwan Fiesta 2011 in Manila on April 14-16. Here’s the Dinagyang Festival 2011 roster of winners:

Iloilo Dinagyang Festival 2011 Schedule

Be prepared this weekend to witness the whole City of Iloilo revel during the Dinagyang Festival 2011.

Experience an explosion of sound, color, and dance.

The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural celebration in Iloilo City held on the fourth Sunday of January, the week after the Sinulog In Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan.

The Dinagyang Festival is held both to honor the Santo Nino and to celebrate the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.

Here’s the latest photo of Smallville21 Hotel located in Smallville Complex, Iloilo’s entertainment and nightlife center. It looks like they’re already finishing up on the exterior works and will probably finish the hotel well before the Dinagyang season. A new render of Smallville21 has been posted in their construction site and the development now features a smaller 4-5 storey building beside the main building:

Photos and Videos of Iloilo Festivals during the Aliwan Fiesta 2010

It was yet another successful showcase of the colorful history and culture of Iloilo during the Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held last month in Manila by three Ilonggo Festivals. The Dinagyang Festival, Paraw Regatta Festival, and Kasag Festival of Banate were among the crowd favorites and were included in the top 10 of the street dance competition with the Dinagyang Festival emerging as the champion and Kasag Festival as 2nd runner-up.
