The Bantayan Festival of the town of Guimbal is celebrated during the last week of March to commemorate its founding anniversary as a civil government. The five-day Bantayan Festival is filled with interesting events that showcases Guimbal’s rich history, heritage and tradidion. This year the festivities is slated on March 25 to 29. The highlight of the Bantayan Festival is a cultural presentation through a street dancing competition that tells the history of the town of Guimbal held on the last day.

More than 50,000 came to watch the first pyro olympics to be held in Iloilo City. The event, which took place during the Dinagyang Festival on January 26, 2007 had SM City as the judging area. Not only was the parking lot of SM City jam packed, most people, who wanted to watch the grand fireworks contest, trooped to surrounding areas such as the open field of Brgy. San Rafael, the Old Airport Lot (now owned by Megaworld), and Smallville.

Tribe performers in next year’s Dinagyang Festival will wear a dark brown body paint instead of the usual black color. Iloilo Dinagyang Foundation Inc. (IDFI) executive director Ben Jimena said after yesterday’s public hearing on the issue that changing the body color of Dinagyang performers to dark brown is logical and would not in any way destroy the festival’s image.
