Kasadyahan 2010 Competition Photos and Videos

It was yet another round of great performances from tribes joining Dinagyang Festival 2010’s Kasadyahan Competition. Also known as the festival of festivals of Iloilo Province, the Kasadyahan Parade and Competition held last January 23, 2010 (8am, Saturday) features the history and culture of the various towns in the province of Iloilo through an extravaganza of choreographed cultural dance drama presentations. Iloilo Festivals vie for Aliwan Fiesta 2008 Champion: Dinagyang, Saad of Leganes and Kasag of Banate

This first week of May, the top festivals of the country will converge in Manila to compete for the title of Aliwan Fiesta 2008 champion. For those who don’t know yet, Aliwan Fiesta is the ultimate competition of festival champions with their beauty queens and floats. The highlight of the Aliwan Fiesta 2008 is the street dance competition, where spectators get to experience a non-stop explosion of color, sound, culture, and synchronized movement during the street dance competition.

This year, two festival champions of Iloilo and a special contingent, which will be taken into the limelight later, will be joining the Aliwan Fiesta 2008.

Representing the City of Iloilo will be Tribu Paghidaet, champion of the Dinagyang Festival 2008 – Ati Competition.

Seven festivals perform at the Pasundayag of Festivals 2008

Seven festivals from different towns in Iloilo performed yesterday (April 8, 2008) afternoon during the Pasundayag of Festivals to open the celebration of Semana sang Iloilo. The contingents first performed at the freedom grandstand where they were able to showcase their culture and history through a colorful and well choreographed dance drama presentation. After performing, a parade followed until the provincial capitol grounds, where the contingents made their final act.

Iloilo’s Chinese New Year – Ilonggos Welcome the Year of the Rat with a Blast

Even before the coming of the Spaniards, Iloilo played an important role as a major trading post in the Visayas. Chinese merchants would sail to Iloilo to trade and in effect, building flourishing relationship with the natives. Today, Iloilo holds the distinction of having the third largest concentration of “Tsinoys” or Filipinos with Chinese ancestry or descent in the country. This year of the Rat, the Ilonggos strengthened that Filipino-Chinese relationship with a grand celebration and festivity last February 8, 2007.

Tampisaw Festival

Tampisaw, a Hiligaynon term that means “to frolic” or “playfully wade in the water” is Concepcion’s way of Celebrating Earth Day. The festival is held in Pan de Azucar Island on the fourth week of April.
