New Medicus Medical Center Proposed

Medicus Inc., a leading out-patient medical health company in Western Visayas, is eyeing to build a new Medical Center in Iloilo City. The new hospital will be a major redevelopment of the company’s lot located along Treñas (Iloilo River) Boulevard near Smallville, Diversion Road. No date has been set yet for the expansion but a perspective of the proposed “Medicus Medical Center” building has been released.

Iloilo 2011 New Year Fireworks Display Video and Photos

Here’s a couple of photos and a video of the New Year Fireworks Display during the 2011 New Year Countdown held at the Iloilo River (Treñas) Boulevard. The spectacular concert and pyrotechnic show, which was reported to cost up to P1 million, was organized by the Iloilo City Government together with GMA TV. Here they are:

Iloilo Greets 2011 with a Bang! A Happy New Year to All!

Hundreds of Ilonggos gathered in the Iloilo River (Treñas) Boulevard during the eve of the new year to experience the 2011 countdown and pyromusical show. The event was a big success! The first ever fireworks display staged at the Iloilo River brightened not only the night sky but also set aflame the excitement and awe of the crowd. Nothing could be more perfect to celebrate the new decade for Iloilo than with a big BANG!

Iloilo Riverside Boulevard

The Iloilo Boulevard located along the Iloilo River is Iloilo City’s newest recreation destination. It is a great place to have a leisurely stroll, go biking, hang out with friends and family, or simply enjoy the great view of the Iloilo River during sunset.

The riverside promenade starts from Barbeque Park along Diversion Road (near Marina) and then passes through the Riverside Boardwalk and the salt beds in Brgy. Tabucan, Mandurriao. The stretch ends in Carpenter’s Bridge, which was recently closed to vehicular traffic and beautified with a cobble-stone laden road. The exhilarating experience is best capped with a meal at the humble Andes Patahan or Casual Dining at Messe Ristaurante near the bridge.

As Iloilo is currently experiencing heavy rains and expecting the same weather condition for the week ahead, Explore Iloilo starts its regular postings with fresh updates of the Iloilo Flood Control Project (IFCP), the metro’s P5.58 billion solution to perennial flooding in the Iloilo City and outlying areas (hopefully this project will be able to prevent another “Typhoon Frank scenario” from wrecking havoc to the city ever again).

Iloilo Flood Control Project: April 2008 Update

The Iloilo Flood Control Project is running in full swing and it looks like the project might be finished on time based from the latest accomplishment reports and a general physical assessment of their construction sites.

Here are some updates on the Iloilo Flood Control Project:

Construction of the 4.75km Jaro Floodway, which will provide a channel from the floodplains of Pavia-Jaro to the Iloilo Strait.

Iloilo Boulevard Proposed

Project Details: Inspired from the Baywalk concept along Roxas Boulevard in Manila, Iloilo will be having it’s own 8km “Iloilo Boulevard” constructed, which will start from the back of Gaisano City in La Paz all the way to the New Carpenters Bridge in Brgy. Tabucan, Mandurriao

The Iloilo Boulevard also includes the construction of a riverside promenade along its length. The project seeks to revive the beauty and wealth of the Iloilo River, which is why Mayor Jerry Trenas has assured that the 3,000 mangrove trees growing at the bank of the river will be preserved.
