Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta 2011 Videos

Here are the performance videos of the four participating groups during the Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta competition last February 17, 2011. “Sinamba sa Paraw Regatta,” also called the “Samba de Regatta sa Paraw Regatta,” is a Mardi Gras inspired street dance competition held during the week long Paraw Regatta Festival in Iloilo City. The Samba de Regatta showcases the musical, dance, and artistic talents from groups representing different schools from around the city. This year, four groups joined in the “Samba de Regatta competition. Here are the performance videos during the 1st round of the competition staged at the freedom grandstand:

Dinagyang “Luces in the Sky” PyrOlympics 2011

On its fourth year, the “Luces in the Sky” Dinagyang Fireworks Competition has become bigger and brighter than ever. Thirteen shooters representing different pyrotechnic production companies from all over the Philippines delighted the thousands of spectators as they battled out the first place title of the Dinagyang PyrOlympics 2011. Within several kilometers viewing radius from the SM City Iloilo venue, the city was at a standstill for two nights during the Fireworks Comeptition held last January 20-21, 2011.

Samba de Regatta 2010 – Pick your bet!

The Samba de Regatta Competition is a recent addition to the Iloilo Paraw Regatta Festival inspired by the Mardi Gras Parade in Brazil. Since last year, it has turned up the heat during the festivities with its flaming hot dances, rhythmic music, and alluring costumes. Two performances comprise the Samba de Regatta: The torch parade held in downtown, Iloilo City and the beach performance in Villa Beach, Arevalo.

Iloilo Chinese New Year 2010

Even before the coming of the Spaniards, Iloilo played an important role as a major trading post in the Visayas. Chinese merchants would sail to Iloilo to trade and in effect, building flourishing relationship with the natives. Today, Iloilo holds the distinction of having the third largest concentration of “Tsinoys” or Filipinos with Chinese ancestry or descent in the country. This year of the Tiger, the Ilonggos strengthen that Filipino-Chinese relationship with a grand celebration and festivity on February 12, 2010.

Luces in the Sky 2010 Pictures and Videos – Iloilo Dinagyang Fireworks Display and Contest

Thousands trooped to SM City and outlying areas in Mandurriao to watch the Luces in the Sky Fireworks Display and Contest during the Dinagyang 2010. 20 entries from all over the Country wowed spectators during the 2-night pyrotechnics showdown to witness fireworks display shows from different participating groups from all over the Country.

Kasadyahan 2010 Competition Photos and Videos

Also known as the festival of festivals of Iloilo Province, the Kasadyahan Parade and Competition held last January 23, 2010 (8am, Saturday) features the history and culture of the various towns in the province of Iloilo through an extravaganza of choreographed cultural dance drama presentations. Iloilo Dinagyang Festival

The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural festival in Iloilo City, Philippines held on the fourth Sunday of January, or right after the Sinulog In Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan. It is held both to honor the Santo Nino and to celebrate the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.

Iloilo Festivals off to conquer Manila in Aliwan Fiesta 2008

Tribu Paghidaet of the Dinagyang Festival and Saad Festival of Leganes Town performed a preview of their performance for the Aliwan Fiesta 2008 last friday. Both contingents are determined to make the Ilonggos proud by putting up a good show.

Earlier during the event, it rained so heavily that the city officials advised both tribes to cancel their performance for the afternoon to avoid accidents. There was some drama during this time because the tribes were so eager to perform. The Ilonggo spirit finally reigned after a large cheer from the crown convinced the officials to allow them to perform

Paraw Regatta Festival

The Paraw regatta is a race among seafarers on colorful sailboats called Paraws in the straits between Guimaras Island and the city of Iloilo. The present-day paraw managed to maintain its original design from the sailboats of the first settlers from Borneo who were in search of a peaceful home in 1212 A.D. Surviving the centuries, the paraws have become a vital part of the Filipino seafaring life.
