AirPhil Express Opens “Iloilo – Davao” Route

AirPhil Express, a popular budget airline in the Philippines, will be opening a new flight route between Iloilo and Davao starting August 18, 2011. It will be a once daily service utilizing an Airbus A320 plane. There’s actually a seat sale ongoing today (August 3, 2011) on Iloilo – Davao flight fares for as low as P488 (one-way). Cheapest regular (year-round) Iloilo – Davao Airphil Express fares cost P998 (one-way).

Jaro Floodway August 2011 Updates

After years of construction, the 4.75km Jaro Floodway has finally served its purpose of minimizing the flooding problem of Iloilo City. As seen from the photos during our “inspection” of the actual site, we can see how effective the Jaro Floodway has been to divert flood waters from the Jaro River during the rainy season in Iloilo City. The flooding problem in Jaro and La Paz districts of Iloilo City and Pavia town used to be a major perennial problem among residents and business owners but now, residents have noticed a significant decrease of flooding incidents in the area. The uplifting development is seen to open vast, once flood prone areas in Jaro District and Pavia to additional developments especially with the construction of the Metro Iloilo Circumferential Road, a section of which will pass beside the Jaro Floodway.

Injap Tower New Photos and Pricing

Here’s a collection of new “Injap Tower” photos from Injap Land Corp. The Injap Tower will be a 21-storey condominium-hotel (condotel) located across SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao, Iloilo City. Aside from the updated exterior and interior renderings, floor plans, and pricing of the new tower were also revealed by Injap Land.

White Sand Beach of Cabugao Gamay Island in Carles

Cabugao Gamay is a small island located two kilometers off the coast of Isla de Gigantes Sur in Carles, Iloilo. Seen from afar, its peculiar shape and inherent beauty is sure to attract curiosity of most travelers. A large chunk of the island consists of a rock hill covered by thick vegetation. Its defining feature is a gorgeous white sandbar located at the northern tip of the island. Like Antonia Beach, an interesting rock formation also sits at the end of the sandbar at Cabugao Gamay. The island is surrounded at all sides by emerald green waters, perfect for swimming.

Pawikan Cave in Isla de Gigantes Sur

Pawikan Cave is an must-see attraction whenever visiting Isla de Gigantes Sur in Carles, Iloilo. Upon entering the mouth of the cave, visitors are greeted with a huge entrance chamber and the sight of spectacular rock formations. There are numerous cave chambers further inside the cave that are aptly lit by atriums (or openings) at the cave ceiling. The unique subterranean views evoke an other-worldly feeling. A talk with the local guides would reveal how their elders would often tell them not to go inside as not to disturb the “spirits” living in Pawikan Cave.

How to Get to Islas de Gigantes in Carles, Iloilo

The islands of Gigantes Sur and Gigantes Norte, collectively known as Islas de Gigantes, are located at the northeastern part of Iloilo (approximately 18 kilometers off the coast of mainland Panay). Although part of Carles town, the main jump-off point to Islas de Gigantes is Estancia Port, which is the primary seaport in Northern Iloilo. Known for having one of the richest fishing grounds in the Philippines, Northern Iloilo (including Islas de Gigantes) also has a lot of white sands beaches and places of interest, which hold much potential for leisure travel. Unfortunately, tourism is largely undeveloped in these areas and is very inconvenient for tourists to get to. Only travelers willing to go the extra mile can experience the beautiful sights of Islas de Gigantes.
