Bali Suites Hotel Construction – December 2010 Update

A new 3-storey hotel called “Bali Suites” is currently under construction along General Hughes St. in the City Proper District of Iloilo City. The Bali Suites is actually a renovation and re-branded version of the Royal Palm Hotel, which was one of Iloilo City’s recognizable hotels during the 1970s. Judging from the construction status, Bali Suites could be completed in the first half of 2011.

Hi-res Satellite Images of Iloilo Airport Available in Google Earth

High-resolution (hi-res) satellite images of the Iloilo Airport are now available in Google Earth finally! It’s been three years after the transfer of the Iloilo Airport to its current site approximately 19 kilometers from its former location in Iloilo City. It usually takes a few months before new satellite images appear in Google Maps so it may take a while before they become live there.

New GSIS Iloilo Building Completed – 4/10 update

The new and modern building of Goverment Service Insurance System (GSIS)’s regional office in Iloilo CIty has already finished construction. It is located in Plaza Libertad area near San Jose Church in Downtown. The offices of GSIS Iloilo will be relocating to the new building this month (if they haven’t already).

By plane, it takes 55 minutes from Manila, about 25 minutes from Cebu, and 1 hour from Davao. The new airport of Iloilo is located approximately 19 kilometers or 30 minutes from Iloilo City, specifically in the tri boundaries of Santa Barbara, Cabatuan, and San Miguel towns.

The New Iloilo Airport is of International Standards and is one of the most advanced and best looking airports in the Country.

How to get to and from the Iloilo Airport:

There is a shuttle service to and from the airport with the drop-off and pick-up points at SM City Iloilo.
There are also taxis, which can be hired to take you to any point in Iloilo/Panay or to the Airport if you’re from the City.

By Sea

By boat, it takes 20 hours at most from Iloilo to Manila. From Zamboanga, 16 hours; Cagayan de Oro, 14 hours; Cebu, 12 hours. Bacolod City is a one-hour trip many times daily. To Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, it takes 38 hours, three times a month. Iloilo can also be reached by Roll-on roll-off (RORO) vessels via through President Arroyo’s Strong Republic Nautical Highway.

RO-RO vessels at the Dumangas Port

There are also daily RO-RO vessels plying the Dumangas-Bacolod route. Dumangas, is a coastal town approx 30 minutes from Iloilo City. The Dumangas port can be accessed from Iloilo City by van at La Granja Terminal, in La Paz District.

It also takes less than 20 min. by pumpboat or 30 min. by ferry ride or RO-RO from Guimaras Island. Terminals to and from Guimaras from the City is at Parola Port (at the Mouth of the Iloilo River), Muelle Loney (Iloilo River Wharf), and Ortiz Port (Ortiz St., City Proper).

By Land

Iloilo is also accessible by land transportation to and from Aklan, Capiz, and Antique. it takes at most 3 hours to reach Iloilo from Kalibo in Aklan, Roxas City in Roxas, or San Jose in Antique.How to Get to Iloilo

Dinagyang Fluvial Procession 2010 – Preview of Ati Costumes

Here are some pictures of today’s fluvial parade during the Dinagyang 2010. Aside from creating a venue to pay tribute to SeÃ±yor Sto. NiÃ±o, the fluvial parade is also where spectators can get a first glimpse of the costumes of the tribes joining the Dinagyang Ati Competition.

The Dinagyang Fluvial Procession started at 3pmÂ assembling at Fort San Pedro and the going through the course of the procession to Muelle Loney/Iloilo Customs House (Aduana). Joining the fluvial procession are decorated pump boats carrying images of the Sto. NiÃ±o. After arriving in Muelle Loney, the foot procession started … passing all the way to the Iloilo Provincial Capitol and going back to the San Jose Parish church at Plaza Libertad where a mass was celebrated.

Be prepared this weekend to witness the whole City of Iloilo revel during the Dinagyang Festival 2010 and experience an explosion of sound, color, and dance. The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural celebration in Iloilo City held on the fourth Sunday of January, the week after the Sinulog In Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan. It is held both to honor the Santo Nino and to celebrate the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.
