The Shrine of the Bondage Tree lies in the Town plaza directly in front of the Municipal Hall of Cabatuan. It is believed that the natives were tied in this tree and whipped if they refuse the polo or forced labor during the Spanish Era. The tree is an old and artistically skewed Plumeria tree (Plumeria rubra) currently fortified with a concrete base to withstand destruction.

A three-hectare lake, located at the plateau on top of the mountain of Cabatangan, about 80 meters deep is an aquatic haven for its freshwater Tinagong Dagateel, carp and tilapia. Nestled at the foot of Mount Apog-Apog from the Iloilo-Antique border, Tinagong Dagat is a freshwater lake that is a 10-hour walk from Barangay Bagongbong -the last barangay reachable by vehicle. Its adjacent forest is rich with dazzling flora and fauna with trees that reach dizzying heights, providing a refreshing breeze of air under its shades making the destination all the more inviting for campers.

Lambunao has the most interesting waterfalls. It is one of the provinces’ nature’s paradise and ideal place far from the noise and the congestion Balagnan Fallsof crowd. It is a 45-minute leisurely ride to shuttle service or an hour jeepney ride from the city. With 24 documented waterfalls, virgin forests, rare flora and fauna–these are but some of the sights in the municipality. It’s a good thing Lambunaonons, with our ever dynamic Municipal Mayor Ret. Gen. Reynor Gonzales, take efforts to protect, maintain and package the municipality as one of Iloilo’s premiere eco-tourism destinations. With his enthusiasm, he created the Preliminary Working Group in-charge in the conceptualization of plans, developing strategies, and formulate details pertaining to policies/programs and projects to be undertaken in developing an ecological and tourism park of the municipality.

In its care are 51 of two critically endangered hornbill species: Dolongan (Visayan Writhe Hornbill) and Panay Tariktik Hornbill. The Conservation Center also provides resources for the breeding of White Spotted Deer and Visayan Warty Pig which are exported to San Diego Zoo, California. Endangered species like cloud rats and spotted deers have gained national exposure when it was once featured in ABS-CBN’s Magandang Gabi Bayan hosted by Noli de Castro and Studio 23′s Team Explorer hosted by former Congressman Juan Miguel Zubiri. Other endangered species found in the center are native pikoy – “Dangag” (Racquet Tail Parrot), Malayan Palm Civet, Leopard Cat, ‘Banog’ (hawk) and many others.

A concrete Japanese watch tower, 7 meters high with an inside diameter of 3.3 meters, and 20 centimeters thick, stands guard at each strategic place by the north and south end of the Suague Bridge in Janiuay poblacion.

Serving as sentry points during the Second World War, these watchtowers prevented local guerillas from using the bridge, tending to delay the progress of their offense, defense or reinforcement. Nevertheless, the watchtowers signify the last stand of Japanese defense in the area.

Down the years, the indestructible concrete twin structures may from time to time remind Janiuaynons of atrocities committed in those times. However, bad memories notwithstanding, Janiuaynons stand to gain from these tourist-oriented landmarks in terms of income-generation.
