It was yet another successful showcase of the colorful history and culture of Iloilo during the Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held last month in Manila by three Ilonggo Festivals. The Dinagyang Festival, Paraw Regatta Festival, and Kasag Festival of Banate were among the crowd favorites and were included in the top 10 of the street dance competition with the Dinagyang Festival emerging as the champion and Kasag Festival as 2nd runner-up. Aliwan 2010 winners – Dinagyang Festival grabs 1st place

Here are the results of the much awaited Aliwan Fiesta 2010 held in Manila last April 26 – 28, 2010. All three contingents from Iloilo got into the circle of winners. The Dinagyang Festival emerged as the champion with Kasag Festival of Banate, Iloilo in 3rd place and Paraw Regatta Festival as one of the runners up.

Be prepared this weekend to witness the whole City of Iloilo revel during the Dinagyang Festival 2010 and experience an explosion of sound, color, and dance. The Dinagyang Festival is a religious and cultural celebration in Iloilo City held on the fourth Sunday of January, the week after the Sinulog In Cebu and the Ati-Atihan in Aklan. It is held both to honor the Santo Nino and to celebrate the arrival on Panay of Malay settlers and the subsequent selling of the island to them by the Atis.

Ati-atihan Festival 2010 Schedule

A week before the Iloilo’s Dinagyang Festival, another famous festival called the “Ati-atihan Festival” in Kalibo, Aklan is also being held. The Ati-atihan 2010, on its 798th year, is thought to be the mother of all Philippine Festivals. The Ati-atihan 2010 Festival is also held in honor of the Santo NiÃ±o (Infant Jesus) and consists of tribal dance, music, accompanied by indigenous costumes and weapons, and parade along the street.

Iloilo Festivals will once again heat up Aliwan 2009 slated this April 23-25, 2009 in Manila. The Aliwan Fiesta is the ultimate stage of the biggest and grandest festivals in the Philippines. Winners of the major festivals throughout the islands would converge in Manila during the Aliwan Fiesta to showcase the colorful culture of their hometown.

Mayad Studios win 2 golds at Annual International Wedding and Event Videographers Awards

Iloilo-based Mayad Studios had just won 2 golds in the recent “Creative Excellence Awards 2008? organized by WEVA (Wedding and Event Videographers Association) International. Their excellent talent in storytelling and their ability to capture the romance between the Espinosa Couple garnered them the gold in the “Wedding love story” category and their extraordinary skills in videography proved victorious in allowing them to bag another gold in “Wedding Highlights Production” category through their video of the Bengtsson Wedding.
