This kind of opportunity when it comes to the development of the city should be supported by the people and not be misguided by the opposition. This time I hope Ilonggos would cooperate to alleviate the worsening energy situation. Be realistic guys…..

Pinoys only unite during rallies, marshal law, fiesta, kun my kuluhaon nga kwarta, etc. What a very funny reality! much luck to all~

As what I said, I agree to Coal, and I wish everyone does too. Madamo pa guihapon ang mga manol, dugangan pa sang mga politicos nga mga kurakot. Ano pa madugay katama ang aton nga pag uswag. Very SLOW in motion. Hala salamaha sila tanan!

I just want to bang my head in the table!! Grrrrrrrr!

jolly, no please, we need your head to power the plant.

  6. Posted April 13, 2008 at 10:26 am |

coal s just another fossil fuel. why not a green alternative. just a thought.

  7. Posted April 13, 2008 at 7:09 pm |

If coal plant is found to be perfectly safe, then i would 100% agree to its immediate construction. Who wouldn’t want progress and the comfort it brings anyway? However we cannot sacrifice the lives of countless ilonggos who maybe affected if it were eventually found to be hazardous. Sometimes we only see the benefits of it but tend to overlook its ill effects.

Population control has nothing to do with the cleaner environment. It is a matter of educating the people how to live clean and peaceful

  9. Posted April 14, 2008 at 5:18 am |

In my opinion, Coal Powered Plant is far better than any other source of Power Generation that uses oil as its fuel. With the exemption of Solar, Wind, Hydro and Geo as the cleanest. My only concern is in the long run, when coal is in scare due to its demand all over the world. One of the reason is China, the fastest growing Economy and the biggest Population in the World is using Coal and eyeing Philippine Coal. When this happen, prices of Electricity would go up and that is scary. When it comes to health, Manila’s smog and smoking is far dangerous compared to Coal Emission.

why not nuclear power plant, 1st world countries are using it. as far as i can remember it was onlly in russia that had a leak b4. lets b optimistic. f u just think 1st worl countries had little problems w/ der energy because of dat technology. f we just rely on fossil fuel 8 will become scarce and expensive.

  11. Posted April 15, 2008 at 6:50 am |

SSS, do you know what you are talking about? The cost of building such Nuclear Power Plant like you are saying takes multi-billion dollars only to be situated in such a small city like Iloilo. Do you think the city has the capacity to sustain it? Do you understand its environmental effects?

To let you know, large quantities of colling water needed to handle its waste heat discharge. For this reason, Nuclear Power Plants are built near large bodies of water – on the shore of lakes, rivers and oceans. Drought can pose a sever problem by causing the source of cooling water to run out. Do you think this is feasible in Iloilo City? I dont think so.

The real problem in our Country is infrastructure funds. Lets accept that we stand as one in the third world countries. For every development projects, we always need an investor or somebody else to rely on because our Government cannot provide our needs. We are like fish in the water, whatever kind of bait they offer to us, it’s up for us to bite it or not, whether it is Good or Bad. To be honest with you Guys, we don’t have a choice, we should grab it, because we are Hungry.

I agree with barug, beggars can’t be choosers, right?

Panay is hungry for power and needs dependable energy since it is at the tail end of the Cebu-Negros-Panay grid, especially now that the whole grid is experiencing shortage.

  14. Posted April 16, 2008 at 8:23 pm |

hey guys…lets face the fact..iloilo needs a dependable energy source…para maka-move on kita..at the moment coal ang most feasible source…so why not….later on kun may madiscover kita nga geothermal source or kun makasarang kita sang nuclear ..nga-a indi abi…(may ara gani ang pakistan , india , north korea & iran). its high time nga maghulag na kita…pirme lang ta iya nagasalig sa energy source halin sa iban…..ti ano sa inyo……………….

Iloilo needs power, but I worry about the health and safety effects of having a coal plant so close to a heavily populated area.

This is in response to “M”. It is easy to say what is right and what is wrong, but you should realize what people needs. My question for you is; Are these people who made this research website living in cave? Are they not driving their cars? Not enjoying the comfort of their aircondition room? Or not even eating cook food? Because if they are, I myself might agree with you. To tell you, all of these people and right at this moment enjoys the glory of what fossil fuel can give. The proposed Coal Fired Power Plant in Iloilo, is not as big as it was showed in the website and there is no basis of how big is the output in terms of megawatt. And one example, you cannot compare automobile that was built in the 60’s. to the present. Technology can alter the old mistakes in design to make it safer. “M”, I appreciate your concern, but the most hazardous one is our kind, please watch the daily news and tell me how many people died everyday of stabbing, ambush and other related crimes. Life cannot be cast in stone if it is your time to leave. So, enjoy life at its best. Ganyan lang daw ang buhay- pa weather-weather lang.

  17. Posted April 17, 2008 at 7:49 am |

There are always advantages and disadvantages in every issue. I hope with the construction of this so-called power plant, safety should be given utmost attention and care to ensure pollution free society.

Ang iban dira naton nga mga kauturan nga against sa Coal naga uluentra man sa rally nga indi gani ka hugas sang ila nga kinan-an antes mag halin sa ila nga balay. Abi mo kon sin-o guid bala sila nga mga “genius” bala haw! Ay! ma-an dulang Ah! Guys, let’s get real in here. If you want ILOILO City and the Province look good, then we have to coordinate and support the Coal Power Plant to be built in Panay ASAP! No whining please! Cheers! : )

  20. Posted April 17, 2008 at 11:33 am |

I don’t wanna live in a “dark” place anymore. Smile :)

  21. Posted April 17, 2008 at 5:53 pm |

i agree with those who support the proposed coal-powered plant, as long as the said project would not adversely affect the health of our fellow ilonggos and the place we rabidly call our home, iloilo. Honestly, it is really iloilo’s time to rise up and regain its former glory.
Together, with our effort to rise, sustainable power or energy is needed for us attract future investors who are willing to invest in iloilo. without power, there will be no electricity to run the big infrastructures and industries that will be set up. without these investments, there would be less jobs for our fellow ilonggos. if we cannot have a sustainable and dependable power supply the earliest possible time, we would surely be left behind in our effort to become a premiere city by the year 2015. We should all think fast and decisive. to all true-blue ilonggos, let’s support the coal-power initiative! it’s our time and moment to shine again. GO ILOILO!

“M”, Whatever you call it, Percentage or Gratuity is a reward for a service rendered. There’s nothing wrong with it as long as you’re not corrupting the whole system of business transaction and anyone should make a living to live. Any Gender has the right to serve in our society without discrimination.
