Treñas to witness signing of Global Power, Formosa US$500-M joint venture today
ILOILO City Mayor Jerry Treñas will witness today the signing by Global Business Power Corporation (Global Power), a member of the Metrobank Group of Companies, will sign today, November 12, of its joint venture agreement with Formosa Heavy Industries (FHI) to construct power generation plants using clean coal technology that will involve an investment of more than US$500 million. I agree, the opportunity has come to our door steps it’s either we accept it or dump it. We’ve already heard what the two sides have to say and, IMO, the general consensus is that Ilonggos have decided to accept it.
I believe that the Church has already done their part in saying their stance. Ultimately its the people who decides.
Mayor Trenas is working hard for this project to ease the never ending increase of our electric bills. But just now, I read in the news that the religious sectors opposed to the project because of health hazars that this project may cause. In my opinion, religious sectors always oppose but they don’t have alternatives or solution to help economic problem of the city. Now investors are coming in and opportunity is in our hands and we are happy that Iloilo City is developing. Why not help and advice people to support good projects and not being hypocrates. The fact shows that leading hospital and private schools in Iloilo are owned and managed by religious sectors. Tuition fees are increasing and you can’t be admitted in the hospital if you don’t have cash. Are they paying taxes?
