I don’t want to be a Kill Joy but here are some questions…

Are these figures correct…1.2Million visitors? This should be a Philippine record! Do we have empirical data to prove this?

Hey, I dont want to rain on anybody’s parade especially on our beloved Iloilo’s biggest festival but are these stats true? Do we have hotel facilities to accomodate at least 10% of these visitors…around 120,000 people (out of towners..ha!) despite the available Iloilo hotel situation is about…at most 4,000-5,000 rooms (go ask Iloilo Visitors and Convention bureau and they will confirm this)..maybe that figure would include motels like dragon Lodge? Do we have indicators like hotel occupancy, traffic, seaport entry…do they tally with airport entry logs (logically) with the 1.2Million count?

I wish the 1.2 Million visitors report were true but its highly unlikely. Maybe 1.2 Million spectators, but that it sounds improbable too. Iloilo City has a population of 400-600K. in order to reach that figure of 1.2Million (double Iloilo City’s population), a huge armada of buses, ships, planes, etc would have been making their way to Panay Island at least a week the festival in order to achieve some semblance in order. Not to mention the logistics involved with additional 600,000 people in Iloilo (assuming all the Ilonggos in all banwas go to downtown Iloilo city, leaving their houses empty)..not to mention… the foregin component…the visitors.

Indicators like traffic, shortage of taxis, jeeps and even basic necessities would have been reported in the media if additional 600,000 horde of tourists/visitors were true.

If we are pro-Ilo2x we should start with the truth…which means we have lots of work ahead of us but we must face the cold facts.

So the question is…what is the actual visitor count for the Dinagyang 2007? Ilonggos need to know in order to get things done for the subsequent festivals…to finally achieve that figure…1.2Million visitors…for real, not just delusions. Ilonggos deserve the truth…not fantasy.
