Website Makeover

Posted by Explore Iloilo

As you might have noticed, I have modified the layout of the site. I’m using more contemporary colors and greys this time. I’m hoping that this will make the website look more neat and organized, unlike the previous layout which I thought was a bit hard on the eyes.

I also managed to reduce the total file size of the homepage to half, which will significantly improve the loading time and performance of the site.

So far the makeover is halfway done … the real job is updating and writing more content to the site, which I will be doing within the day or next. I will prioritize information about tourist facilities such as Hotels and convention centers, Iloilo Real Estate, and Tourist Destinations. If I have some time left, I might be giving each municipality its own comprehensive info page.

Suggestions are highly appreciated at this time. I need to know if the layout is okay or if I have to do some more tinkering with the color-combinations or more additions.

Thank You for the support!

@Flash Header: I’m still downloading Macromedia Flash MX so that I’ll be able to make the flash banner (and remove the google ads on the header of the home page, as requested).

@Disorganized and messy Sidebar: Added a heart icon separator to separate the important links in the sidebar from the sponsored ads

@Comments: somehow made it look more readable but have to improve it more.

I really appreciate that Mike. Ofcourse constructive criticism is more than welcome. I’ll see what I can do with it and I’d really like it if you will make another comment on the revised right sidebar.

So … here are the things I have to improve on with regards to the general layout.

    1. Change the banner to an animated banner
    2. Tweak the sidebar color schemes/theme
    3. Change how the comments section looks and make them stand out more.
    4. Put images on each section of the site

With the navigation and reorganization. There’s still a lot lot lot to do, hehe.

What i meant before was that in the middle and especially the right columns it is a mixture of different sections which all look similar. It’s like looking through a newspaper. Everything is the same font, same color. Nothing catches your eyes. Except for the new pictures. The right area looks like they’re just sponsor ads, not menus. Some people might miss important sections that are worth viewing on this page, mistaking them as advertisements. Don’t get me wrong though, I LOVE THIS SITE. I’ve waited a long time for someone to showcase Iloilo’s beauty on the web like this. Finally, it’s here on ExploreIloilo. Don’t mind me, just a little constructive criticism from a loyal visitor, thats all. Can’t please everyone right.

Mike, thanks for the comment. What do you mean by messy and unorganized, can you be more specific so that I can change whatever is making the layout as such.

I agree with Soul totally. Dazzling effects and more pictures will surely captivates more readers and guests alike.

Chy, please update your Dinagyang Watch. There are so many great articles about Dinagyang being UN’s chosen festival to carry its MDGs and ADB’s recognising Dinagyang’s good practice. I think you rather highlight these topics of great Dinagyang’s feat so as everybody’s will be informed. Again, let’s focus ourselves for a worldwide audience, not only Ilonggos and Filipinos. This website should cater international visitors who wanted to visit, know and learn about Iloilo and Ilonggo’s culture.

    Thanks.
