This year, as we observe the University Centennial Celebration, the WVSU Alumni Association, Inc. has identified several priority projects.WVSU ALUMNI VISION FUND DRIVE (Target – P 3,420,000), 2006-2008:1. Construction of Centennial Main Gate, Path Walk and Perimeter Fence – P 2 M 2. Student Scholarship Program – P 1 M 3. Creation of Alumni Audio-Visual Room at Alumni Center – P 100,000 4. Book Publication – P 100,000 5. Medical-Surgical Mission Series – P 100,000 6. Marine Life Conservation Project – P 100,000 7. Culture and Arts Advocacy – P 20,000One of the visions is geared toward the improvement of physical facilities. The gates and fences are slowly rusting and breaking down. Let us join hands with the University Administration in the construction of the main entrance/exit gate, path walk and perimeter fence. A cornerstone of WVSU’s strength and dynamism, this facade will also showcase its welcoming spirit. We plan to start the construction in August 2007.We will publish a book entitled “Building Global Communities: Writings of WVSU Alumni.” This will contain 100 stories from alumni all over the world who have made significant and sustainable impact and contribution in improving the lives of people of all races, color and creed. We encourage the alumni to share their stories.Together with the Medicine Student Council and the Dept. of Preventive and Community Medicine, WVSU College of Medicine, we will conduct 10 medical-surgical missions in coordination with the external campuses in Calinog, Janiuay, Lambunao and Pototan in Iloilo Province every six weeks starting in May 2007 until June 2008. Aside from bringing medical care to the poor in the countryside, this activity creates linkages with the external campuses and serves as a pathway between the alumni and students. In coordination with the local governments in Guimaras Province , the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and the Dept. of Environment and Natural Resources, 100 hawksbill turtles or “pawikan” will be released in Guimaras Island in January 2008 as part of the Alumni Marine Life Conservation Project. In the Philippines , marine turtles face serious threats to survival-they are hunted in the sea or slaughtered on the beach while they lay eggs. Though they live long-for more than 100 years, more than 30 species are officially recognized as a potential danger of extinction. As an advocate of arts and culture, the alumni association will support the University Little Theater to re-stage the Palanca awardee one-act play entitled “Age of Heroes” by Esteban Javellana, then a resident artist of WVSU. Staged 30 years ago, this mobile theater teaches about idealism, truth and justice. The second floor of the Alumni Center would be developed as the Alumni Audio-Visual Room which could accommodate 50-60 persons. Students, faculty, staff and alumni may use the facilities at a reasonable cost. We support the Student Scholarship Program by sending poor but deserving and promising students to college. Many of them await our help. Now is the perfect opportunity to share our blessings and be counted. We appeal to the alumni, faculty, students, parents, friends and benefactors to help the WVSU Alumni Vision Fund Drive. You may be a donor or help us solicit for donations. A mural in the main campus will bear the names of all donors and solicitors. Their names will also be printed in the alumni book.To safeguard donations, please issue check, send donation thru the authorized bank, or call the office for collection and issuance of official receipt. We warmly welcome everyone to attend the grand homecoming and international reunion on January 28, 2008 (Friday).
