As seen from the photos during our “inspection” of the actual site, we can see how effective the Jaro Floodway has been to divert flood waters from the Jaro River during the rainy season in Iloilo City. The flooding problem in Jaro and La Paz districts of Iloilo City and Pavia town used to be a major perennial problem among residents and business owners but now, residents have noticed a significant decrease of flooding incidents in the area. The uplifting development is seen to open vast, once flood prone areas in Jaro District and Pavia to additional developments especially with the construction of the Metro Iloilo Circumferential Road, a section of which will pass beside the Jaro Floodway. View of the Jaro Floodway in action at Brgy. Buhang, Jaro District Jaro Floodway facing Pavia town Buhang Bridge Facing Towards the section of the Jaro Floodway in La Paz Jaro Floodway water level markers Jaro Floodway VideoThe Jaro Floodway works by diverting flood waters from where the Tigum and Aganan Rivers meet before they get discharged into the narrow Jaro River. The Jaro Floodway provides a direct channel for flood waters to be discharged directly to the Iloilo Strait. It is important to note that the Jaro Floodway is not intended to totally eliminate the flooding problem of Iloilo City, especially in the City Proper area, since there are still other factors that contribute to the problem such as the city’s poor drainage system and low (below sea level) elevation.Don’t leave yet. ark saysApril 9, 2012 at 7:23 amOh Guys one question I forgot. Is it true that the flood ways was supposed to have choke-points in certain areas so that the pressure of water would increase and push it out to sea at a much faster rate? I heard this online over Bombo. They said this feature wasn’t implemented in the Floodway. Just curious.Reply
ark saysApril 9, 2012 at 7:20 amGood to see they have planned something to regulate the flooding. Last time I visited the city there was still flooding in certain areas in the downtown district, would be nice if they fixed the drainage also.@Vic Who are you arguing with this time? Seems like every time I visit this site you are always clashing words with someone. I thought that was on another post or issue? Please stop spamming the board. You are just loony with your posts sometimes.Reply

Darth_malate saysApril 8, 2012 at 12:34 pmVic posting irrelevant things once more. Making up for his biased posts. See how many people tend to disagree with you? Mahirap ka kasi pakiusapan. Hay Vic! This is not your personal blog. Most of the things you are posting are very obvious to everyone. Stop being condescending and just make your own website instead of lambasting everyone here and lecturing us about things we already know since elementary.Reply

mark saysNovember 8, 2011 at 9:31 amthe jaro floodway really did help prevent floods… but come to look at it, is it really finished? I don’t think it is. Kung magsigi-sigi ulan kag kusog ang current, kaunon gid na sng tubig ang mga wala natapos simento nga kilid sng floodway. From which I’m sure will cause so many problems later on…Reply
Santi saysApril 5, 2012 at 1:03 pmIt does help. The area near CPU and Tabuc Suba Jaro are aren’t as prone to flooding as before. It’s probably one of the only useful projects ever made in the city.I’m not sure on this but I believe it’s already done or at least almost done. We go biking near the canals and it’s a beautiful sight.Reply
Vic saysOctober 16, 2011 at 3:52 amleaders before, today and to come is the same….to gain for personal advantage…nothing have change… no matter how… people end up to be caught up . and they cant help it…Reply
