One such surprise to first time visitors and even locals in the city is “Nothing but Desserts,” a French-inspired coffee and dessert shop, which had been attracting a steady following since its opening last year.Nothing but Desserts recently introduced a new line of sweet treats to add to its menu full of sugary goodness. Explore Iloilo and Flavours of Iloilo were invited for a taste test of their new offerings.First up was their Chocolate Medley, French Meringue, and Staciatella. Chocolate Medley (middle), French Meringue (left), and Staciatella (right)The Chocolate Medley had a fun and tasteful presentation that was in sync with the Christmas holiday season. As the name suggests, it is a mix of different kinds of chocolate, cream, and mocha. The Staciatella was very tasty with its nicely balanced mocha and chocolate flavors.Although, the French Meringue sported a plain white look, you’ll certainly get a new perspective after a taste of this dessert, which had a delicious incorporation of coconut flavor. We were told that it took months to perfect its taste.Closer look at the French MeringueNext up was Nothing But Desserts’ Pistachio Cake. Elegantly designed with light colors and artistic curved white chocolate topping. The Pistachio Cake was delicious and had well balanced taste. If that’s not enough to give you a sugar rush, you must try the pavlovas at Nothing but Desserts. Pavlova is a popular dessert of Australia and New Zealand.Pavlova is a meringue-based dessert traditionally decorated with a topping of whipped cream and fresh fruit of sweet/tart flavours. The Pavlovas at Nothing but Deseerts was crispy crust on the outside and chewy inside. You can choose from different flavors like Strawberry, Blueberry, Blackberry, and Grape. The Lavazza Coffee was a perfect match to the delicious new dessert line-up. Lavazza is a popular coffee brand known as Italy’s favorite coffee.Nothing but Desserts is located in the Avenue in Smallville, Iloilo’s dining, entertainment, and nightlife center.Don’t leave yet. We discovered your place in Smallville and we ordered some sweets that were really great tasting. But at the same time it was a huge frustration when we came back as your staff were packing up for the day around 10 pm or something. we knew you were closing in but all your staff were still there. We live in Quezon City, Metro Manila for good and dropping by from time to time to visit relatives are such a joy. We came back late after a dinner in Tatoy’s and visited the wake of our relative then we opted to go back to Nothing But Desserts again to bring some stuff home to Manila as pasalubong the next day as our flight was scheduled early morning.Your staff said they cannot let us buy anymore because they were closing in already, and that the “goods” were already inventoried, packed and counted. What was frustrating was the fact that your staff did not care if we came back just for that reason alone–to bring home your sweets to Manila as pasalubong. No going the extra mile. I was imagining then I would have boasted them to office mates who frequent Iloilo. Sort of word of mouth, which of course will become your walking advertisement.I’ve been meaning to send my feedback soon but it’s only now that I was able to find my way.I suggest you work more on your Customer Service skills, because having nice product to sell is nothing compared to a great “extra mile” service to your would be customers.Truly yours,Dolly Palisada (wife to STanley Palisada of ABS-CBN Ch 2 Manila)Reply anon saysFebruary 22, 2010 at 8:37 pmThe coffee and the cream type desserts aren’t that good but the cheesecake, pecan crumble and the rest of the cakes are great. Gelato is good too. Service is friendly and courteous.Reply Binshu saysJanuary 11, 2010 at 3:50 pmFantastic!!!! Those pavlovas look 5x better than the pavlovas I’ve had here in the Gold Coast (Australia). The food and dining industry in Iloilo is doing remarkably good, in my opinion. With regards to the coffee, I’m surprised that Lavazza has reached the city. It’s excellent coffee minus the sensationalized brand appeal of Starbucks. Can’t wait to visit the homeland.Reply
