During that time Ted’s is across the street. But when I go downtown (SM) I eat at Ted’s but for me the best tasting batchoy is to be found at Popoy’s located at Iloilo Central Market. This place is for true batchoy afficionados. Sossy types may not visit this place coz of its grimy location and questionable “cleanliness”. But for us “batchoy lovers”, we just assume that whatever impurities it may contain will be killed by the hot broth.. lolz! I know many of batchoy afficionados out there will agree that Popoy’s is the bomb! I may also recommend Boy’s batchoy at Jaro Small Market! Superb! Much better than their more commercialized competitors.Reply Pablo saysMarch 9, 2011 at 11:09 amMy memory goes only as far as when I was two years old… so it must be 1954. We always went to Deco’s in Lapaz public market. Ted’s batchoy has always been acknowledged in Iloilo as the original, even among the batchoyans in the Lapaz supermarket where the dish originated. Deco’s batchoy also claims that it is the original and has even gone as far as giving the year when it supposedly started but few Ilonggos has ever heard of Deco’s until recently when it was bought by a local businessman and was vigorously marketed as the original.Reply janet saysNovember 17, 2009 at 7:59 amActually what he is saying is true, according to the history of Lapaz, Deco’s use to be inside the Lapaz Public market, I am not sure now if they are still there..But the Deco’s family started it there that is why it is called Lapaz batchoy…and Ted’s after that followed. That is from the story of the oldies that I have gathered when I was still in Lapaz..Reply ronalyn arellano saysOctober 14, 2009 at 8:43 pmwell, iloilo is next big thing..in terms of culinary destination..like to dine in lapaz batchoy may it decos or teds..taste it! ul forgot ur name for its really good taste.au revoir!!!Reply ramskiez saysDecember 20, 2009 at 12:51 amheheheh thats true, deco’s is the best taste….Reply juno saysOctober 6, 2007 at 7:10 pmJon, I guess you can consider me as an “Oldtimer”. I have somehow seen the growth of the establishment(Ted’s) and. It brought the dish into the National spotlight with countless shows featuring it, from Lifestyle Asia,Korina’s RatedK,GMA’s 100%pinoy,Trip na Trip,Lakbay TV…some in National Dailies and I saw also that Ted’s was featured in Entrepreneur Magazine. With my talk to the owners, they were very happy that Nationally Televised shows have took notice of the dish…they didn’t ask for it..its the shows that seek them.About the caldo, well maski diin ka nga batchoyan diri sa Iloilo, its Caldo-all-you-want.Reply junefer saysOctober 4, 2007 at 6:55 pmhehehe ok:)Reply junefer saysOctober 3, 2007 at 6:44 pmhello chy… would u mind posting buffet resto…as well?….. i was looking to it many times in here but couldn’t finy any.. tanxjuneferReply chymera00 saysOctober 1, 2007 at 7:17 pm@Jon: Ok ah, hagan2 lang @Juno: Yeah, I have a lot to learn about Iloilo, I admit. Ultimately, the consumers will benefit from a healthy competition.Reply Juno saysOctober 1, 2007 at 7:04 pmNo probs kid =) It’s a good thing that your site is open to suggestions. Once in a while, a person as old as I am will come across your site and will put up a reaction just like mine in some of your features. So its good that you are very open to this.Im not taking away Deco’s reputation as one of the first to have a name in the batchoy rows of Lapaz. Ted’s has built up its reputation too for having a good, if not the best tasting Lapaz Batchoy in Iloilo. It’s not an overnight success, its an honest to goodness story of hardwork and an example of a true Ilonggo success story, unlike what is happening to Deco’s right now which I heard is being bankrolled(or was it bought?) by a certain chinese businessman. They did not expand because of an overwhelming demand. Pasensya na to’ kay Kilala ko ang tag-iya sang Ted’s, so maybe im a little biased but to be fair with them, they have done so much to promote this Ilonggo dish. That is one thing that the Ilonggo’s should be proud of.Thanks and More power to your site!!!Reply chymera00 saysSeptember 30, 2007 at 9:31 pmNo, I have not known Deco’s 10 years ago but that doesn’t mean I can’t know anything about their reputation, or make me not credible to what my thoughts are about it. But you’re right that this website should not be just about my opinion so I’m going to edit the article. Thanks for the advice Juno ;)Reply Juno saysSeptember 30, 2007 at 3:38 pmThats true…its a subjective thing but with all due respect to your site, point of advice lang… you should have put a disclaimer that its just your opinion and not as a matter of fact, misleading eh.
