HomeDueñasDueñas Church 202 sharesA mention of Duenas to an Ilonggo will most probably evoke an association with mysticism and the dark arts, a reputation which can be traced from horror stories set in its lands and creepy tales of old. Some people consider Duenas as “Iloilo’s misunderstood town” because of the misconceptions that has developed over the decades.Whether it may be true or not, a visit to the Duenas Church, built in 1884, will surely remind you of the strong bond that binds the people of Duenas to the Catholic Faith. The Duenas Church, hardly ever talked about or mentioned in books, is one of Iloilo’s finest examples of Baroque Architecture. Inspecting the Facade, the overpowering proportion of its octagon belfries is very evident and gives the church an extraordinary beauty that is quite different from the other churches in Iloilo. How to get to Duenas ChurchAs to my knowledge, I have yet to encounter a jeepney or L300 servicing the Iloilo-Duenas Route. Thus, going to Duenas is a bit tricky. From Iloilo City, go to the Tagbak Terminal in Jaro and ride a bus headed to Passi City. The bus will be passing by Duenas, which is the town before Passi. The travel time is approx 45min-1hr.Don’t leave yet. There’s more!Leave a Reply Cancel replyYour email address will not be published. Our church, the concrete one one, was built by Fr. Gallo in 1878 and not in 1884. Thanks anyways and by the way, nice pictures. Best ever photo shoots ever taken of our place. My ancestors are from there. I still have relatives living in the town. It is kind of quiet but i love it. The fiestas make the town come to life and memories of the family reunions with plenty of good food. And mahjong and beso-beso with all the beautiful mestizos and mestizas of the town still warm my heart after all these years.Reply pao saysJanuary 6, 2013 at 11:37 amI meant if the sun rise infront or at the back of the church?Reply Paolo saysAugust 15, 2012 at 8:32 amHi, Your top most pic of Duenas Church, is that in the morning or afternoon?thanks,Reply Westy saysApril 7, 2013 at 8:28 pmI was at Duenas last week. Everytime i look up to see the the rich design of the church, i feel like i’m taken back to the spanish era. The church reflect the rich influence of spaniards to our architecture and religion. Most of all,i miss the people that thrive in duenas.Especially my family, relative, friends and former klasmates. All those scenery is useless without the loving people of duenas. They always warm my heart when i’m home, not to mention the bonding moments i experience with all those around me. i miss the foods, games, noise and chitchating with my neighbors. Oh my beloved duenas, my heart is crying to be home once again. “i may live my life away from home, but my heart will never get that far from you my beloved hometown”Reply BEBOT PAMA RN saysSeptember 6, 2009 at 5:47 pmnoel, taga diin timo sa duenas? ano mo si nong benny jocson? classmate tamon ni betty kag usting sa hs. sa duenas ako last month, may namatyan kami sa familia. diya gali ako sa texas naga nursing, lapit na magretire. musta nalang sa imo. lapit na fiesta ta sa duenas.Reply noel_jocson saysAugust 19, 2009 at 1:33 pmKeep up the good work!
